The blocks right along the south coast should have some shading, not totally whiffs. Slowed the onset of the snow ever so slightly this morning based on observed trends. Also tweaked temperatures. Forecast remains on track this morning. Previous Discussion... Overall, not much change to previous thinking from the past several shifts. Upper low moves across northern New England tonight. A broad surface low is forecast to develop off of DelMarVa around noon today, then track eastward. Some models have a double-barreled low, with the main center more than 100 miles south of the 40N 70W benchmark, but a weaker center near the benchmark. Despite these discrepancies, modeled precipitation amounts, both from global and high-res, are amazingly similar. Looks like about 0.2 to 0.25 inches across the islands and closer to 0.1 inch along the coast and over Cape Cod through the entire storm. With the `fluff factor` of snow to liquid ratios near 20:1, this is likely to produce up to 4 inches on the islands and closer to 2 inches on the south coast of RI, south coast of MA, and Cape Cod. Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect for Cape Cod and the islands. Have upped probabilities of measurable snow farther to the north today, but that is literally for 0.01 liquid inches from roughly the Mass Pike northward...just barely a coating. Could see up to an inch in the Providence to Hartford areas. The main upward vertical motion occurs over the islands in the early evening...see below. Ocean effect cloudiness remains over outer Cape Cod from Provincetown to Chatham. Radar showed that snow showers have been slowly, but steadily, encroaching on Provincetown from the east overnight. Ceilings were lowering. So, it is possible that the first flakes in the region occur on the outer Cape this morning. Otherwise, expecting very light snow to overspread much of the region after about noon then pick up in intensity along the south coast. Highs today will range from the mid teens NW to the mid 20s SE. Its so dry out We snowed lightly up here for 5 hours yesterday with a negative Td, and air temp of 7F. And that was a ****wave moving through. Yea “dry” is relative. It’s easy to get lulled into this meteorogological trap until you remind yourself that many frigid areas of Canada —and around the globe—receive a **** ton of snow....
