NYC is about to get heavy snow for a good hour! Everything else looks moderate or light but that band by the Delaware gap movies east looks like no joke!  That band should drop an inch alone considering the ratios should be at least 16:1 or soinxr1Kphla_h.gif

That was a micro death band, near 3" now

Is it me or does the secondary not seem to want to take over? I can see the pressure drops off the delmarva, but doesn't look like the surface and wind' aloft are responding. And the moisture from the primary doesn't seem to be collapsing, rather just tracking East in a little but of a strungout/elongated manner.

What a gorgeous night out there.  We have 1.375" of pretty low bulk density snow out there - small dendrites - very birefringent with very low moisture content - I'd guess at least a 15:1 ratio.  Snow stopped here around 2 am and I'm about to go to sleep (was up making the playlist for our dept. holiday party tomorrow).  Looks like most folks got 1-2".

Not sure if the band in central PA will make it here or not. Mt. Holly doesn't seem optimistic, talking about dropping the advisories early (not a surprise).  All paved surfaces are covered with snow, but I imagine any treated major road with traffic will be ok in the morning, while sidewalks and sidestreets will be very slippery.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM THIS MORNING/...
Mesoscale update: Vigorous but fast-moving snow band moved
through the southern half of the CWA during the past 3 hours.
Snow reports indicate generally 0.5-1.5 inch totals with the
band, mostly in about 1-2 hours. Pronounced dry slot has moved
into the area generally along/south of I-76/I-295 corridor, and
hi-res models show little precip occurring the rest of the night
in this area. Meanwhile, precip to the north looks lighter but
longer-lasting. For now, will keep current advisory as is given
the signal for at least light precip to the north for the next
few hours, but the snow looks mostly done Philly southward.
Expect slick roads tomorrow morning, but I suspect there will be
little additional snow. If current trends continue, portions of
the advisory will need to be cancelled early.

Grids update: Dew points were way too low (which makes sense
given the very sudden snowfall and shallow dry layer), so needed
to adjust these upward considerably overnight. Spatial
distribution of temperatures is largely based on presence of
snow or not, so frequent updates to temps will be required
through the night. For now, teens in the Poconos and twenties
elsewhere.

I think this system will over-perform, for NYC too. Radar looks good.

The WWA for Saturday on LI was a joke; this time it is more warranted.

Should start within next 2 hours too, enjoy.

It was warranted for what happened Saturday Night, all the roads were snowcovered then.

Sometimes the under-hyped little events are just as good as their big brothers.  We didn't spend nights anguishing over model fluctuations on this one, and if it just covers the ground no one has reason to be disappointed.

Interesting that the most accidents by a factor of 2:1 occur in 1-2 inch snowstorms lol.
