12/5/07 was a clipper that overperformed. Mainly because a huge fat yellow band developed to the west and swung through. It’s when we started using the term super band and death band. Ian called it an uber band, but it never caught on.

.

"Death Band" is a banned term in some regions.  Too New England.

Did you want to be close to Burlington?  Wonderful town imo.

I'll need to be close to an airport that flies most places and Burlington is the only town in VT that can meet that need.  Plus, Burlington (and the little town where my place is, Charlotte) is absolutely great.  I can see why it is usually ranked the happiest place in the US each year.  The people, atmosphere, vibe, natural splendor, etc... are just awesome.  I've been up there 35+ days this year and not once, not a single time has anyone asked me what I do for a living.  It's always, "what are you into" or a genuine "how ARE you?".  Manchester would have been the town for climatology while not needing to live in the mountains but I am super happy.

Just got back from another long walk. What a nice scene out tonight. Legit winter and the holiday lights upped the appeal a few notches.

The high ratio snow capping off all the evergreens and shrubs reminded me a little of my years in the Rockies. I'm a little sad the day is almost over....

The last part of the storm had some nice fluff factor for sure. Trees look gorgeous tonight.

Where is the link to the spotter reports on LWX's page now? This link I have bookmarked doesn't seem to have anything for the storm: http://www.weather.gov/lwx/pnsmap?type=snow

try this

Just a few more from earlier. It is amazing how something as simple as a long walk and snow can bring happiness.

I'm on a HIGH HIGH. I took a sweet jebwalk in the snow. I got to see big flakes fall past the streetlights. I was in the middle of a living snowglobe that was filled with snow! Snow gives you a whole new lease on life. I'm so high I'm cruising at 97,000 feet on an afterburner. I breathed in deep, breath after breath of cool refreshing snow laden air. I am so rejuvenated, I'm gonna live forever. We got over 2 inches of the glitteriest snow you ever saw in your life! It dazzled!

It's December 2013 all over again and all is right with the world! We are going to have lots of high latitude blocking and this is going to be one heck of a wonderful winter for the entire Mid Atlantic subforum. We're gonna be talking about this for the rest of our lives. :D:thumbsup::sled::hug::snowing::snowman:

Total of 2.9" for the storm here in McLean. Seems like a lot more because it is fluffier for sure. Couldn't get accurate measurements in the grass, and after getting a couple 3.5", 2.5" and a couple near 2.8-3", I went with 2.9". Seems most accurate. Next time I'll measure on a snow board though, since I'm guessing some of the snow was lost due to compaction. Still a great early

I still am glad I and multiple others never gave up on this storm, especially when things look bleak

I mean, the good news is that at least a couple individual members still show it. Still, not good. As I previously stated a couple days ago, I'm hoping the guidance is showing the SE bias that was prevalent during the Jan 2017 storm and a couple in the last few years. I'm not sure if that'll happen, since I can recall the same amount of events that trended SE as those that trended NW

Overall I'd say the best model here was the 3k NAM. Leading up to the storm on the 0z it showed the banding feature near and west of I-95. Of course we didn't get the original onset of snow that would've put all of us over 5" of snow, but it was accurate in showing where the banding was going to set up

You were right, NEVER give up on the storm. This was the best storm to track, and in the end, that deathband was so fulfilling and rewarding. I did not get as much as you but totals dont matter. What matters is we all got to enjoy an early December snow!!!

This is only the beginning, We have only just begun.

Completely true. In my lifetime, I have only been able to fully enjoy December snow once. That was today. Too young to enjoy the 2009 snow (barely remember), didn't care enough to enjoy the 2013 snow. This was truly special.

Some great pics in here. Sounds as if many in here met or even exceeded their expectations for the storm. Here's hoping that this is a sign of things to come this winter.

For those that were panicking yesterday morning? Storms quite often do their own thing irregardless of the time schedule and evolution that the models throw out there. So please learn to let it play out somewhat before you start crying FAIL and making everybody else's experiences on these boards miserable.

3.5" final total...wonderful start to the season. I was out in the falling snow for 90% of the day....been awhile since I did that. The trees out front of my balcony are gorgeously snow filled.  If you love winter I don't see how you can be disappointed this morning.

NEXT!

Too young to enjoy 2009? So you're about 10-13 yrs old?

Hate shopping but yesterday was very enjoyable driving around and being out in the snow as we went from store to store. A+ in my book.

Not sure if you have a threads total up yet for snowfall but in case you haven't my total here was 2" for the storm.

6"? CONGRATS!!! But I did notice you just had to outdo all the other spotters didn't you? A little competitive are we? :)

Hey, 2 isn’t bad for being as far west and north you are with this system. And thanks, I got lucky with those bands.
