Staying up just to see the snowfall rates.

Just drove home in it from Follansbee, WV. I don't think I have ever driven in snow that heavy. Roads were wet all the way home, but the snow was coming down so heavy at one point that visibility was rough. Big mesmerizing flakes coming right at me. I have a slushy coating so far in Bethel.

Hard to get a good measurement this morning, had about 1.5-2 inches on the grass, but varied wildly, some elevated surfaces were closer to 3, and nearly 4 on the top of my car, but not sure if that was somehow influenced by something else. In any case, roads were all just wet, but everything was encased in white. Going to be some really nice views shortly after sunrise.

Woke up to a surprise, almost 6" of white fluff clinging to everything, but the street is just wet.  This may be my biggest snow of the season.  So much for that 1" they were calling for last evening....lol.

One of the hi res models yesterday  had a heavier stripe in your area.

They’re verification has been solid all season.

Maybe some storms tonight with the frontal passage? Looks to be pretty windy too. Looped through the GFS and still not really a strong signal for any sustained Spring warmth at least in the next 7-10 days. Who knows, maybe we can hit 60 inches of snow for the season with a big storm in May! :arrowhead::lol:

Did nws post accums for yesterday? I feel we're already close, or should be at least.  Seems like they left an inch or two off from last storm.

I'm really hoping that the little signal of a trough digging into the west over the 10-15 range on the EPS comes true. I am ready for spring. I am pumped for the t-storm potential tonight! :underthewx:

They did, looks like they put us at 4in thus far for the month of April, with 56.5 for the season thus far. I usually check the climate website for this stuff, it gets updated pretty quickly most of the time. http://w2.weather.gov/climate/index.php?wfo=pbz

I hear ya, it looks below average for at least another 7-10 days, but even if we hit average temperatures by then that will feel really warm given mid April averages, but if we manage to get into an above average regime it will be a real shock to the system! At least this staves off grass cutting season I guess.

Might be in a good spot for this weekend. Kinda like seeing the models a bit south at this point considering it is April and really can't see a snowstorm heading that far down.

Yeah, seems like its been slowly trending north, almost gets some good snow into AGC on 12z GFS, with plenty of time left for it to go further. I think these W-E type waves especially given the time of year have better chances of trending North than South, but we shall see.

It should. Telliconnections support it (last time I checked), and our spring weather around here seems to come in 2 week intervals: Crappy, cold and wet / warm and less wet / back to crappy, cold and wet again. I stopped using the word "dry" in reference to southwestern PA about 10 years ago since it's so rare that we have a dry 72 hours around here, much less an entire week.

Mesoscale Discussion 0212
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
   0538 PM CDT Tue Apr 03 2018

   Areas affected...Parts of northeast Kentucky...southeastern
   Ohio...southwestern Pennsylvania...West Virginia

   Concerning...Severe potential...Watch possible

   Valid 032238Z - 040045Z

   Probability of Watch Issuance...60 percent

SUMMARY...Thunderstorms will overspread the upper Ohio Valley region
through 8-10 PM EDT, accompanied by some risk for hail, potentially
damaging wind gusts and perhaps an isolated tornado.

DISCUSSION...A large cluster of thunderstorms appears to be
maintained by lift associated with lower/mid tropospheric warm
advection beneath strongest upper difluence, downstream of a
vigorous short wave trough turning eastward into the upper
Mississippi Valley. Activity is expected to persist into this
evening, spreading across the upper Ohio Valley region through
00-03Z. The convective system roughly straddles a warm frontal
zone, with rather stable air lingering across much of the upper Ohio
Valley, to the northeast of the front.

The southern flank of the convective system does extend southward
into the warm sector, across parts of southern Ohio into
northeastern Kentucky, and some northward advection of the front and
boundary layer instability does seem possible across northwestern
West Virginia and southeastern Ohio, toward the northern West
Virginia Panhandle vicinity. This is expected to coincide with
strengthening of southwesterly 850 mb flow in excess of 50 kt, which
may contribute to an environment supportive of a continuing risk for
potentially damaging wind gusts. An isolated tornado or two may be
possible, but this threat may be mitigated by relatively dry air in
   lower levels.

Size? Still in castle Shannon?

.
It didn't last real long actually. It started out hailing for about 20 or 30 seconds, then very heavy rain, then hail mixed in again toward the end. I'd say that the biggest it got was a little larger than pea size. Came down hard initially though. Not just a few stones.
