Had to rouse the convertible out of hibernation for the day. I forgot how nice 60 and sunny feels but I also forgot what a pleasure it is to drive a competent car instead of my old 4x4 pickup.

What car do you have? I drive my BRZ year round, the right tires will do wonders on a good car :) I hear what you're saying about the difference though, after driving my 06 Durango with half worn shocks and tires it's such a pleasure getting into my go kart and winging it through some corners wound out in 2nd or 3rd gear.

This is perfect if it's not going to snow.  Can get some outdoor work in and save on heating bills!

Yup pulled the vines off the roof and cut some overgrowth out of the way, did a final leaf blowing and driveway clean up to make shoveling easier and tomorrow I'll do a final yard cleanup. The oil savings so far this fall have been significant, no complaints.

They certainly do.  Tires are definitely the most important thing when trying to daily a low, manual, RWD vehicle.  also love the brz, one of the purest new cars you can buy.  i have daily'd an e46 coupe (currently 2002 330ci) for 7 years now.  Without snow tires, it's miserable and generally impossible to get around in anything over an inch of snow.  But a nice set of blizzaks makes the car usable and safe up to around 4 inches of snow, beyond that point it's an issue of ride height over traction.  snow tires previously on higher vehicles have shown almost no limitation to snow amounts so long as you have sufficient ride height.  i would even bet a RWD jeep with snow tires would outperform a 4x4 jeep with "all-season" tires, but that's purely speculation.

all that said...i will be getting some type of older 4x4 truck/SUV soon, coming from the subaru world i like feeling that i can go out in any conditions if need be.

Wow. From 1970-present it was virtually never. Shows how difficult it is to have more than 1" on the ground Christmas morning. 1995, of course, a standout year; the 1959-1967 period was excellent, as was 1945-49, and the previous solar minimum from 1880-1920.

2009 had 7" on the ground in the morning here, following the 20"+ the week before.

E46s are pigs in snow (but fun to send). My GTI is fine if I kill traction control and start in 2nd even with all seasons .

Anyway, mid 40s now feel a whole lot cooler after mid 60s today.

1912 and 1966 both had snowstorms on Christmas Eve and 1966 was one of our best snow seasons, closed out with an amazing February and March.  Went from an amazingly hot and dry summer, to cold and snowy winter.

It's good to see the new Wantagh station added to the hourly weather update.

1883 looks like the most wintry week leading up and including Christmas day...they had a few storms just before Christmas...8" Christmas eve...another 5" Christmas afternoon...temps were below zero one night before Christmas...

I’m literally on the Nassau/Rockaway border, my temps aren’t really representative of Nassau. The temp dropped quickly as I headed further inland. It was already down to 35/36 before I crossed Sunrise Highway (in Lynbrook).

I see they added the Staten Island station as well...unfortunately being a rooftop station, I've noticed it's higher temps on clear calm nights when compared to mine and other nearby pws.

Summertime we really heat up fast too, westerly and northwesterly winds and we're hotter than the city!

But we also radiate better at night than the city does and more like Farmingdale
