Yep, a lot of the leaves are just browning and falling off. A lot of the Poplar trees have done this. Oaks and some Maples are looking better (color wise). Taken on Big Bald (Yancey NC/Unicoi TN county lines.n looking towards Boone. You can see how the very top already browned out, but it's looking great below 5000'. nrgjeff Posted October 11, 2017 Share Posted October 11, 2017 Agree below 5,000 FT will be better this year. Sweet spot should be 3,000-4,000 FT. The 3-4K zone is below the impacts of the early cold then hot; and, it is above the just hot. Even down to 2,000 FT may be nice in creek beds and other cool spots. Franklin to Waynesville area looks on the verge of popping, based on last weekend. Nate did not mess up anything I could see below 5K. Blue Ridge was just starting to go between 4,000-5,000 FT. jburns Posted October 12, 2017 Share Posted October 12, 2017 Just got back from a few days in the very warm NC mountains. Beautiful as usual but the primary color was green. Yesterday we took a ride up to Wisemans View overlooking the Linville Gorge. As you can see, not much in the way of fall colors. Linville Gorge. Table rock on the left. Hawks Bill mountain.
