Check out this vortex Northern Canada

Recommended Posts

Typical double block pattern with a large vortex over the Baffin Island area...I think we've seen a few examples of this pattern, though the vortex wasn't that tight. Jan-Mar 2014 had a pretty active PV over North America...93-94 had a large Hudson Bay vortex with ridging over the Pacific. A similar double block pattern was also modeled during January of last year, and led to the brief burst of cold coinciding with the early February storm. I think the low heights tend to press farther south in winter, so the anomalies aren't quite as intense or close together.

I'd think this pattern could suit us well in winter if the PV was located in Hudson Bay instead of Baffin Is.

Still looks like the main cold is remaining in Siberia. That's my worry. We've seen the PV just sit over Eurasia so much the last couple winters.
