Windspeed Posted September 9, 2017 Share Posted September 9, 2017 I refuse to downplay any threat until the event is over but I will say the following with regards to any future life-threatening events not impacting your community as forecast:Floridians pay a price for living in a beautiful sub tropical climate and environment near to coastline that is prone to intense hurricane landfalls. If their inconveniences keep a massive loss of life from occurring, too bad. Be thankful your property was not damaged and stop bitching about government officials and meteorologists that are doing their best to put public safety first. Disruption, aggravation and financial loss from an event that doesn't pan out versus experiencing overwhelming loss of life to an event that does pan out is not an exact science and is the reality of living in an evacuation zone. If you cannot live with the uncertainties involved, you're living in the wrong state. I suggest you find another geographic location to reside that doesn't include those risks.I actually think that adults who live in evacuation prone areas on coastlines should be required by law to have an emergency or contingency fund for mandatory evacuations. Higher amounts if you have dependants. This should be like insurance to help offset the cost of temporary relocation and financial loss when normal insured avenues do not apply such as: You having to evacuate is a financial burden in money spent and time lost in wages regardless of insured property loss. This would mitigate not receiving government financial relief when your community is spared. Perhaps it can be subsidized or businesses can start including it in salary. I did pretty much fine in Charley and many of my neighbors had partial roof and wall failures because they got hit by large debris and falling trees. They have bumped up the storm surge numbers on the most recent statement. They live in Maryland and are here now. Called 'em and shared some gallows humor. The just paid for a $60,000 renovation of the condo and are a "little underinsured".
