Good luck!  And remember the most important mantra-keep on keeping on.  I bet you feel a lot better after you recover from the endarterectomy.

Update:  Saw the specialist at CMMC (LEW) yesterday afternoon, and learned that what I was told last Friday was a bit alarmist - the blockage is little if any changed from the ultrasound done in 2011.  The Dr. referred to it as "moderate", same as my primary care physician had said 6 years ago.  I am totally without any symptoms that could be linked to the blockage, and that plus the slight (or non) movement of the needle since '11 led to the Dr. recommending that we not do the procedure, but be alert for even the slightest symptomology - problems specific to my right eye, or to anything left side below the neck.  Then I'll have another ultrasound a year from now, paired with a same-day apt with the specialist.  Good news, though with a watch-and-wait.

For next week the records at CON are like 89/90 depending on the day. There's a fair chance we do it.

Farmington records for Sun-Tues are 89,88,87.  I think we miss, but perhaps not by much.
Of interest is the heatwave in Sept. 1895, when the highs for 21-22-23 were 94,100,99.  This is somewhat supported by nearby sites (LEW, Gardiner, Bridgton) which show a 3-station average of 92,93,94.  (I think Farmington then had an in-town/near hard surface site; many suspect hot temps in the 1890s.)  However, the minima are different, at least for the 23rd.  The 3 station average minima are 52,64,59.  In Farmington it was 54,65 (good so far) and 78!!  Not only is that nearly 20F higher than the other stations, it's the highest minimum ever recorded at Farmington, and with the max of 99 makes for the hottest daily mean on record, just what one would expect at an inland location after the equinox.    Farmington's high for 9/24 was 78; I wonder if the guy neglected to write down the 9/23 low and, thinking it had been warm the previous evening, just filled in the blank with the 9/24 high.

Tamarack, what is the % blockage right vs left?   You're fairly active right?  It would make sense with no symptoms and minimal if any change to stay the course.  Good luck-don't be hesitant to get one more opinion-peace of mind.

How you guys doing down there in SNE?  I have not been paying attention to the radar so not sure how much rain fell.  Few times I looked over the past couple of days, really just from Plymouth to Providence got appreciable rain.  Endless nice weather up here except some clouds yesterday.  Calm winds most of the time but have had a few intervals of winds gusting up to 10 or perhaps 15mph.  Getting quite dry.  No rain in the past 2 weeks and none for the next 10 days unless this next trough can deliver.  I was hoping for a weakened Maria to come up but that is looking less and less likely.

Last night the cirrus shield from Jose was overhead.  As the sunset over the clear skies of NY state the sun shined up on the base of the cirrus giving us a great sunset.  I have read about a hurricane sunset in the tropics as a hurricane moves in from the east and this happens.

Grabbed this picture last night over Newfound Lake...

Ha, Jerry.  My 3 year old Samsung Galaxy Note 5!   I don't even own a 'real' camera anymore.  The one trick I always do before trying to take a nice picture with the smartphone is clean that little glass lens on the camera.  Usually its covered with finger prints and smudges.  People never think of that.  It amazes me how good the smartphone cameras are and I don't even have a new phone!  Also most smartphones now have settings that let you use exposures, night mode etc. etc. etc.  people never play with those.  I sometime do but didn't with this picture!  I am fortunate to live in a beautiful area.  Never look back from moving up here from the Boston area.  It's a weather weenie's dream!

Your winter pics are legendary.  Beautiful area.  Once I'm recovered from my surgery and winter sets in I plan to visit Quebec again-this time for winter.

Left side was not mentioned (and I did not ask) but evidently is not an issue.  Right side was "60-79%", compared to (IIRC) two-thirds, in 2011.  I don't have  "regular" exercise schedule.  Walking, canoeing, yardwork, woodpile - some aerobics there, with the saw and trying to split some particularly uncooperative pieces.  Usually I get more exercise in fall-winter than spring-summer.

Sounds like you got good advice.  Good luck with it.  Why did they do carotid imaging in the first place without symptoms unless they found sone thing on an eye exam or another test?

Guarantee most of New England possibly as far south as NW Jersey goes to freezing or below first 10 days of October.

All it takes is one day where the 850s get near 0C that time of year and it'll happen at most spots aside the hilltop or mid-slopes.

That early September shot of near 0C 850s gave widespread valley 30s nearly down to BDL.

Today was definitely top ten material...

Full sunshine and max heating saw 78/45 at 3pm.  Like if you wanted the best but most boring weather it's 70s over 40s.

One thing I noticed though is the sun is now behind the mountains prior to 6:30pm.  It was like 8:30pm back in June/July.  I definitely miss the long daylight.  Radiational processes start that much earlier though...lost 5F between 5-6pm when in July its like peak temperatures at 5pm.
