Looks like 54 kts.

Thats it? That seems kind of weak. Where did you get that from?

I've noticed the wunderground archive doesn't have a lot of the peak wind gusts. Like when you go back to Dec 1992 on there, it only has BOS gusting to like 60-something when their peak gust was 78mph.

I worked for the Almacs grocery chain, we had a generator, and delivered supplies to the elderly by truck, first thing they asked for, got any TP? LOL

It must have been Ash Wednesday during that period. I say this, because I remember a kitchen table of partiers rubbing cigarette ashes on their forehead. laugh.gif

That's where I saw it. It did have the peak wind statement at the end of the metar, but maybe there is some stuff missing. I'm kind of shocked it wasn't higher given MQE gusted to 100 with ne winds. It's not like we had an inversion.

Yeah they don't have all the peak winds correct. I usually try to google the storm with "Boston, MA peak gust" and most of the time I'll get a legit source, but the March 1984 storm is a bit more obscure so its harder to find data on it.

You worked at Almacs? I loved that place. We had one in Foxboro when I was growing up. My favorite thing was the conveyor system that had your groceries meet you out in front of the store.

We hiked 2 miles to a BPM (pre-Shaw's days) to get groceries a few days after the storm when roads were still impassable. There were 10 of us in my parents house (gee Steve, sound familiar?)

Snow piles in the Foxboro Company parking lot into June. Wind howling all night....

LOL, Remember it well. You would think that, in this day and age, that they would have the groceries waiting for you in your car!

We can get weather models and porn over this interweb thing, but no groceries in the trunk yet.

One sad story from the '78 Blizzard was the little boy who disappeared during the storm and his parents finding his body near the front door after the snowbanks melted

Massive tips working the conveyor, that and location of Parties in Misquamicut, friends loved me. Life was good, lifeguard by day grocery stocker by night, party stalker all the time.

I think that was right down in Auburn...just south of here.

Remember that very well, hard to imagine for some here but literally visibility was inches at times at dusk and after. Nobody ventured out for that reason.

Obviously i found something to do and my son celebrating his 32 nd today is real glad I did.

I think that happened over in Hull iirc as well. What an awful way to go.

LOL - sounds familiar. During TS Doria I ventured out onto our NNE garden apt balcony during the wee hrs of 8/28/71 because the rain gauge was about to overflow and I wanted to catch all of it. The roar of wind/rain thru the open door awakened my wife of 10 weeks, and confirmed for her my wx craziness. Our son was born 6/3/72. (Of course, we were newlyweds, so I can't be sure that occasion was the one.)
