8/18/2017 Heavy Rain, Flooding & Severe Storm Observations

169 posts in this topic

Only 0.33 this morning, 0.03 this evening with occasional thunder and lightning.

Today's highlight for me is the 80 degree dew point, and the first lightning bolts I've seen this summer. One bolt snaked up and down through the sky like a dragon.

Managed to get a mini jackpot with over an inch and a half or rain with reports of over 2" nearby.

One really loud strike that actually knocked out the power for a few minutes. After all the duds this summer I'll take it. Looks like storms faded shortly after passing the area.

But our lead over the North Shore in August 2011 was much bigger.

@bluewave

That was an awesome event.  Had between 7-8" of rain.  I wish someone would post the radar loop from that day.  I remember there was training of pretty strong thunderstorms over the south shore for a few hours.  We've had so much wild weather since 2000 that I tend to forget exact details of some of these events.

That was the heaviest rainfall event that I ever experienced. My first and only 10" event in under 12 hours. Many in Long Beach with a basement got flooded out.

Shot this yesterday during sunset as the storms pulled away.

Kickass! I'd put that right up there in the top ten shots I've seen on this forum this year, maybe in the last few years.
