Typically our tornadic events come with early morning warm front passages.

Yeah, they mostly involve warm fronts with the exception of Labor Day 1998. I don't think any of our tornadoes since 2000 occurred during a formal tornado watch.

Wasn't there another event in 1998, back in May I think?  Around Memorial Day?

Interesting that we had severe weather events near both Memorial Day and Labor Day that year.  Personally I feel that the Labor Day outbreak was superior.  Last time we had anything like that was back in October 1989 I think it was with all the funnel clouds reported and the school wall collapse.

We had some big severe weather events in 2010 too, but obviously not high risk days.

Labor Day 98 was still the only time that I ever verified wind damage to trees and 3/4 hail in Long Beach.

In Long Beach it was. But the close to 3" hailer on 08-01-11 was the record for Nassau.

I don't think that was in SW Nassau I don't remember it lol.  It would be nice to have to shovel hail one day and to have the plows out for it, like what happened in NJ a few years back.

Was that the largest hail our area has ever received?

I remember a couple of significant hail events in Oceanside in the 70's and one in North Merrick that took out a couple of windows at the camp I went to. I remember one of them being enough that I shoveled the driveway just because I could and doing it in shorts and sandals was kind of unique.

The golf ball sized hail that I had back on 5/31/17 is the largest I've ever seen in person. Not sure if it's a coincidence or not but the number of hail events seems to have increased here substantially in the last ten years.

I think so too.  NJ has had a number of shovelable/plowable events in recent years.

I went away on summer vacation one year and when I came back and went through the mail I saw we had received our community newspaper and there were big blaring headlines about a car dealership losing half their cars because of large hail.  I regretted not being there to see how big the hail was- this was back in the early or mid 90s.
