Not sure if anyone missed it, but northshorewx.com is back up after being down for several weeks..  There is a new web hosting company now.  Everything is identical, but if you've ever linked a page or an image, some links may not work due to the fact that the new UNix hosting platform is case-sensitive (uc/lc didn't matter under the old windows hosting).

The content still hasn't been updated in a while, but I now have an option to convert this to a Word Press site when I get time to think of how I can organize the old content.  In the meantime it's gotten harder to update since it's now all flat HTML (was ancient asp script on the former hosting platform).

I was talking to someone in Penticton BC yesterday and he said it hasn't rained in 45 days and the smoke from the forest fires is sometimes so thick it hurts to breathe. They've been changing the filters in the AC unit in the building he works in every other day and a bunch of the employees have been staying there at night because they can at least get uninterrupted sleep because the air is better than at home. They were expecting at least a little rain last night hoping it would put the smoke down for a day or two.

Long Islanders better now than the winter right? That being said watch this winter be a Long Island winter lol

The interior finally got bragging rights over the coast last winter with the March storm putting them ahead of LI.

Opposite of the 1980's when NOAA Wx Radio nowcast frequently had.....Snow changing to rain along the coast....rain heavy at times. Interior winter storm warning..snow heavy at times. Cutters and coastal huggers ruled with the less frequent BM track.

What the heck happened in 88-89 in AVP with that low snow total?

One of the strongest +AO winters on record. Suffolk County was able to cash in on the surprise December 6-12 " Nurlun which missed areas west.

Hopefully this winter we have more of a -AO influence

I hope we can manage a Xmas Eve 2013 redux. Very unexpected, spur of the moment storm that dropped 5 inches in 30-40 minutes only a few hours before Xmas. That was my first white Xmas.

I was on the LIE at the time, it went from nothing to heavy snow instantaneously, like we entered a haboob. I'd never seen snow pile up so quickly, felt like a scene from out west. Of the 6543578 major winter storms we've had in recent times, none have come close to those rates for me.

Luckily, the -EPO has been there when the AO/NAO has had it's more + intervals since March 2013. But there is no substitute for a good -AO or -NAO. My favorite winter storms of the 2010's in 10-11 and Jan 16 were all -AO/-NAO driven.

Last night and tonight apparently is the biggest meteor shower ever in history. I'm wondering what time it'll clear out and where can I go see this event preferably in westchester county or the Bronx.

Too Cloudy and the moon is around 60%. Also the same meteor shower happens every summer.

Not true this event is historically the biggest ever

The Perseids are one of the more consistent meteor showers in terms of activity from one year to the next. To be the "biggest ever in history", it would need to produce a ZHR of around 200,000, seeing as observers have reported 50+ meteors *per second* in the bigger Leonids outbursts. With the moon as bright as it is, expect to see a couple dozen meteors per hour tonight.
