One of the best lightning generating storms in years. Thunder impressive too although we've had worst. Usually we're lucky to achieve a lightning rate of about one flash/30 seconds. This was literally almost constant, like you'd see in a horror movie. Lasted a good 1 hour+ too.

Nocturnal events tend to feature louder thunder than daytime due to the typical inversion of cooler temps near the surface which acts to amplify sound waves. Lightning is generally more frequent at night too.

There was another cell that must have just missed you. Went across Sussex and then far NW Bergen. It poured for about 15 minutes IMBY around 4:00.

Yeah that one missed to my north.  Around 2:30am I had some light showers, but they didn't amount to anything.

the spread in average temperature between March and April is going to be around +17.5 this year...1941 had a +21...1960 a plus 20.8...2015 was +16.2...before 1941 there were other years with a much warmer April than March but the environment was different...1941 is the largest spread since records have been kept in Central Park...
