Dang the 18z is cold for the end of next week. Looks like highs in the 40s for Friday with lows in the 30s with high elevation snow Saturday morning with a deep trough centered along the east. It looks to stay on the cool side a few days after also with the trough kind of just sitting in the east.

I'm heading down to Birmingham on Saturday so I'm gonna miss much of this, unfortunately. On the bright side it looks to stay sub-80º on my trip down there so that's nice.

Man this is consistently my favorite thread.  If I remember correctly, Met1985, you were the first person I read that mentioned the snow back the first week of April, and then for this one in May, I'm starting to see rumblings elsewhere as well.

Thank's Tim I appreciate that. The models have been pretty consistent about what's coming for us. The cold, rain, and maybe just maybe some flakes of snow for high elevations. Also look at the extended say 7 to 10 days out this trough just parks itself over the East. We stay way cool for several days I'm thinking if this thing pans out that way.

i can't believe what I'm reading. this is for the N. GA mtns.

The interesting part about
tomorrow lies in the vertical profile of the atmosphere. Most of the
saturation from wrap-around shower activity will extend above the
freezing level...meaning below zero /500mb temps plummet to almost -
20C and 850mb to just over 0C to put things into perspective/ and
some Bufr soundings indicate some saturation wrt to ice in the -10C-
15C range. Therefore...would not be surprised to see some
graupel/ice pellets mix with the rain showers tomorrow. Think the
best chances will be across higher elevations of northeast
Georgia...tho could be seen as far south as ATL.

That is impressive for May 5th! This is a unique setup for sure.

Man oh man the weather is looking awesome the next 10 days! Looking at the euro we warm up one day before a trough backs in from the east. The chance for flakes are off the table but I do not think we hit the 80s the next two weeks.

My good friend the 3km NAM would like to disagree. :)

Planning to head up to Mitchell early Saturday morning on my way to my sister's graduation in GA. May flakes or bust!

You must post some pics or a video if there are any flakes up there. Those of us who are winter weather fans need a "snow fix".

Had a very, very light dusting here on elevated surfaces. Just enough to know it snowed a little. Dropped below freezing for a couple of hours around daybreak (31.2°).

We're moving to our Salter Path home next week. Everyone have a great summer and as always, I enjoyed following this winter with you people. Next year will be epic!

I'm happy to say that I am now a high country resident! Just bought a house in Wolf Laurel sitting somewhere between 4400-4500'.

On a related topic,  any recommendations on awd vehicles?

Get a 4wd.  Congrats on the  house.

Congratulations man and welcome aboard! Madison County has some beautiful land and very remote.  Like Franklin said get 4wd instead of AWD.
