Guess depends where you are - when it started here there were fairly large flakes which put a fairly good covering on the grassy areas - now it is the fine stuff. Latest few runs of all available models continue to trend towards less moisture and a more southern track. Current guidance suggests a dusting to less than an inch north of I-40 in the East TN Valley and Northern Plateau while areas further south may see an inch in the Valley increasing up to 2 inches in the higher elevations of the the Southern Plateau. Additionally, areas in the foothills along the Appalachian Mountains of East TN and SW NC will likely see 1 to 3 inches total with some isolated higher elevations seeing accumulations of up to 4 inches. Forecast confidence is fairly high with the timing of the snow being mainly in the 0-12Z time frame with best moisture centered around 6Z tonight. Forecast confidence is somewhat lower on precise location of snowfall totals as the east to west orientation of the event sets up a rather sharp moisture and therefore snowfall gradient. In these situations...location is everything. A small shift north or south and the central valley could see 1 to 2 inches during the overnight with the southern third of the area getting a slightly lesser amount. One area where confidence IS growing would be the forecast for the Northern Plateau, SW Virginia, and NE Tennessee. These areas look like they will be out of play for this event. There is just no moisture available to work with and with consensus of models keeping moisture well south of that area for the event, would not expect a sudden shift that far north for best QPF. That is the way it is where I am, the kind of good snow, on everything except the roads, likely will be gone pretty quick once it stops coming down and the sun gets higher but makes for a great pix and amazing to think that it is snowing and just 36 hours prior there were tornado warnings in the area.
