RECORD EVENT REPORT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PITTSBURGH PA
0510 PM WED EDT NOV 2 2016

...RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURE SET AT PITTSBURGH...

A RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURE OF 80 DEGREES WAS SET AT PITTSBURGH TODAY.
THIS BREAKS THE OLD RECORD OF 78 SET IN 1933.

Also tied for first as the highest temp ever in November, and tied for second for highest mean temp in November.

P.S.: One of the three other Novembers it reached 80 F was 1950.

Just sayin'. :snowing:

I would love a storm like this.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Appalachian_Storm_of_November_1950

During the height of the storm, record to near-record flooding occurred along the eastern side of the Appalachians across eastern and central sections of the state. The Schuylkill at Fairmont Dam reached its highest stage since 1902.[1] In Pittsburgh, 30.5 inches (77 cm) of snow accumulated from this cyclone. Tanks were used to clear the resultant snow.[14] When a warm spell visited the region during the first four days of December, river flooding struck Pittsburgh.

It was 21F this morning in my backyard.  It looks like I moved to the best spot in Cranberry for radiational cooling.

The GFS is still showing a decent cool down to below normal for several days at the beginning of Thanksgiving week, starting on Sunday, with gradual warming back to normal by Thanksgiving day.  I hope these cold surges are the start of a colder December.

The both of you should be in good positions to max out on wintry precip for the metro this season.

Also in general those are nice places to live.

Interesting article.....it seems like at this time of the year there usually is a low that deepens over the western Great Lakes region.  Just happens that the GFS is showing something like that next weekend.  That is what may bring down some cold air from Canada.

I think we broke a record today for the latest killing frost. (28F or lower)

The record was 11/11/1994.

I just picked all the jalapenos and banana peppers that were still going strong as of Thursday. Crazy to think things were still growing, but these last few nights were the last straw for all the plants.

Thursday and Friday this week look really warm, Friday especially, but wouldn't be surprised if Snow flurries / showers are in the forecast for Sunday and Monday.

I'll have to double check, but I think we tied the record for longest growing season also.

Last three mornings have been 21, 22 and 20 at my house.  I plan to take advantage of the warm sunny weather this week and get some Christmas decorations out and cut the grass one last time...I hope.

Sunday and Monday look brutal compared to what it has been with a damp northerly wind.  Agree we will probably see our first flakes.  Below normal doesn't hold for Thanksgiving Day though.  Model runs show maybe another shot of below normal temps will come back in weekend after Thanksgiving.

Its going to be hard to get any sustained below normal while Canada keeps getting blasted with Pacific air. Not a death sentence for snow lovers though because if we can pop a -epo / +pna from time to time that will help send some cold air our way. Will be interesting to see how things evolve over the next couple weeks. There is a lot of cold air stuck on the other side of the globe so hopefully we can tap into that with some cross polar flow and time it with a good storm. Either way I think everyone will agree it will be more seasonable this December than last.

Hello EURO for Sunday.  For Pit  12z
~0.8" qpf .. 850s in the -7c range, 2m around 0c

Euro looks to be the most amped up, with CMC similar but GFS not really biting yet. Didn't expect to have something to track already, and it will be especially hard to pay attention to it on Friday while its approaching 70.  If the Euro solution ends up closer to reality we are probably looking at our first accumulating snow of the season. I love storms with strong dynamics, will be fun to monitor the temp drop after the front blasts through.

Don't really consider my neck of the woods in play on this one, what with a low passing hundreds of miles to the north, but it may be a serious snow creator for the "snow climate" areas and even into Central PA.  With winds out of the NW there is bound to be lake effect.  The weather will definitely make things interesting for the Saturday night game in Morgantown, though.  Perhaps a slight chance of snow as it turns colder.

I honestly didn't expect very many snow chances before January, so even a <5% in Mid-November goes down as a win in my book.

GFS shows basically a dusting...Euro actually is pretty decent....so I'd go in the middle of all of em! but regardless we should have some accumulation for the first time of the year!....the negatively tilted upper trough and upslope flow into the mountains-Im thinking around my neck of the woods about 6"......at least thats my hope:snowwindow:

As of right now I'm thinking for us in the low lands coating to an inch Saturday night through Sunday. GFS has been pretty adamant of much lower snowfall amounts and surface temperatures will be marginal so if we are seeing light on and off snow showers its not going to do much during daylight hours.
