It's about to get into some deeper water too, that should help it out. .

It's not moving slow enough for that to be a factor. Shallow layer temps are all this needs at its forward speed. It's only real obstacle with respect to SSTs is the interaction with Andros, but that is hardly significant. A lot of that mass is swamps and inlets bordered by the gulf stream to the west.

It's finally getting going now.  It's amazing though how severely these little islands disrupt the core.

Cuba?

It's all about the terrain. Cuba/Hispaniola = mountainous and highly disruptive to a TC's core/outflow. Bahamas being very flat, not so much.

Per the vortex messages, it went from 959mb to 954 in one pass. That's quite a drop...I wish they would do what they did a few days ago and just continue circling around the core.

Wasn't that done mainly because they were so close to the coastline? I might be wrong, though.

OK saw 952 but yes 954 in an hour is, well pretty decent;)  NOAA planes usually dance with the eye.

Cuba.  It wasn't really over them that long but it took a bigger beating than most thought it would or even thought it did after it departed there

Hard to keep that momentum up when all the winds at 1000 to 5000 feet can't make it to the eyewall.  Plus when the air comes back down the slopes of the mountains it dries out and the latent effect is gone.  Air can't keep expanding because of that and thus the air coming in has to slow down as the pressure increases.
