Haha that would get your attention.  I haven't seen one around here in a long time, but I know they're still around.  A buddy from work said he was up in the deer stand last weekend and saw a bunch of coyote pups run by without a mature one along with them.  That seemed pretty bizarre to him at the time.

An improvement for sure. Likes: hourly tab, daily goes out further, radar overlay on local aerial map, 3-day history link has a far more readable chart. Now if they could just tweak the KRMY ASOS unit at the airport to report snow intensity accurately all would be great. ;)

We've lost a few seasoned veterans in the subforum in the past couple of years. ChicagoWX and SSC come to mind. Whether you like him or not, ALEK does know his stuff, but it looks like he's now MIA. I know that I am not mentioning a few others. It's tough to be on these boards for many years and see people that I consider friends kind of fade away.

Even though his life will be no different under a Trump administration, he really played up the "Anyone who doesn't know Hillary is going to win is an idiot" fiddle. He needs to just come back and take his medicine.

And PR isn't even here anymore.  I'd still bet on him coming back when a storm threatens but I didn't think he would be away this long so who knows.

I hear ya.  It seems like we've been pretty unlucky with people moving away, giving up the board in lieu of social media, or just deciding to slow down for whatever reason.

News about contests ...

Hello, I am dropping into all regional forum banter or chat threads to post some information about contests that you may find interesting. 

On the general forum of American Weather Forums, we have a temperature forecast contest that has been going on here since Eastern gave birth to American Weather. We would welcome some new entrants for 2017; the contest is simple to enter and just takes a minute once you've decided on your forecasts. There are nine locations across the U.S. including Chicago (ORD). We predict anomalies from 1981-2010 normals, and the forecasts are scored promptly at the end of each month. I am drawing your attention to the contest a month in advance of the new contest year for two reasons -- (1) people get very busy and distracted around New Years, and (2) the contest has a four-seasons component for the 12 months starting Dec 2016. So this is a good month to jump in and get in a practice round before 2017. Some of the regulars in the contest include well-known forum members that you'll recognize, and the standards are pretty high (albeit I am dragging them down somewhat). So it's a good place to test out your forecasting insights against some of the better forecasters on American Weather. Here's a portal into that forecast contest thread ...

Meanwhile, one other contest I can recommend if you want to make a snowfall forecast for 25 locations in the northeastern and Mid-Atlantic states for Dec to Mar winter 2016-17. This is a separate website that runs just this contest and storm forecast contests that you can enter with e-mail notification provided to remind you if a storm is brewing. Once again, you would recognize a few names in that contest (recent years have seen 15-20 regular participants) and the standards are pretty good, once again an ideal place to work on your forecasting or show it off depending on where things are at.

Just to complete the tour, you may know that the central/western forum is the place to go for annual severe weather forecasts (most people make them in the winter months, the 2017 thread will probably open up soon). And make a note that there's an annual North Atlantic hurricane forecast contest also in the general forum here at Am-Wx. I organize that one as well, and usually run an announcement thread in May.

I grew up in Maryville. Was home last week for Thanksgiving, and I couldn't get over how much smoke there was. Even saw a couple of fires from 75 heading north. They definitely need that rain.

Been following this on twitter, it is very bad down there, lot of major structures on fire near the city. The radar signature is still very pronounced especially now that the rain has passed through.

Feels weird to be heading into winter season without Geos posting. A new baby in my house keeps me off the board quite a bit.

I mentioned a few days ago about missing posters: Geos, SSC, Chicagowx (although he does check in from time to time), Alek, etc. Another that comes to mind with this snow is Harry. I haven't seen hide nor hair from him.

EDIT: Yet a couple more that come to mind, Keenerwx (although I think I've seen him lurking) and Beau Dodson from the winter hell hole that is Paducah. I've also noticed the Ricky isn't posting much as well as the met from DVN (his name slips my mind right now).

I was going to make a post inquiring about Harry and if anyone has heard from him.  I think he's  involved with another wx board but I'm not certain.   As far as Alek I've read comments here about his absence having something to do with his political postings???   I'm not sure what the heck the correlation is there unless he made a bet that he'd leave if Trump won lol???

Beau is someone else I've often wondered about.

Harry posts on another board, it's a small board he runs. Smaller more intimate number of posters than here. Mostly michigan.

Alek recently made a return a couple days ago on the new political forum (under a different name).

I know SSC was attending school in Alberta, so I think that's (in large part) the reason for his absence.

As for Geos, he accepted a job offer after graduating school in the Pacific NW (it was discussed this Summer).

Beau donated a lot of money to the site, and through the grapevine I heard he was offended over something and decided to leave, but also has had some personal issues that may have factored in.

Keenerwx was in college last I remember but that was a couple seasons ago.

Lots of new screen names posting lately... just an evolution of the board I suppose

Yep.

Most of the folks I would talk to back in the mid-2000s over at Weather Underground have all moved on as well. dmc76 is the only one that remains.
