Obviously not an expert here, but given how well it has organized this afternoon and evening it is probably a good thing this doesn't have 12 more hours as you could be looking at possibly hitting higher level cat 2 or cat 3 if if it had time.

could have 2 to 3 more hours over the Gulf.  It slowed down a ton when nearing the coast.  And now rearing towards the right a bit....keeping it over warm water longer.

Just got off work and catching up.  Strengthening at landfall can make a Cat 1 seem like a Cat 2.  Katrina was one scary storm at landfall in Florida.  More like a giant tornado.  Just talked to a friend in Loyd Fl. he said it's getting interesting.  That squall was pretty intense, lots of wind making it to the surface.

Although, I have been very silent about this.  This storm is going through a cycle of rapid intensification which is apparent with the lightning in the northern bands closest to the center.  This could become a low Cat 2 just as it makes landfall with/without an update to show that.

Somehow I deleted your PM and all sorts of funky stuff is coming up when I try to reply - so I'll be nondescript here (no PM) - Aiko!

Not a leaf stirring here.

Long strange trip.
