Pittsburgh, PA: Late Winter --> Spring '16...

Mailman

Recommended Posts

We have to get through another "threat" of a snowstorm first. I for one do not any more snow. It was so nice to get out and golf. But it is Pittsburgh and it's 70 one day and 30 the next.

Looks like nothing in the next 10 days. Temps look like it will be normal to well above.

Could we be done with snow?

No.

AS THE BAROCLINIC ZONE PASSES WE ARE IN STORE FOR BIG CHANGES IN

OUR FORECAST BEYOND THE CURRENT SEVEN DAY FORECAST. YET ANOTHER

MATURE AND DEEP H5 CYCLONE DEVELOPS OVER EASTERN CANADA FUNNELING

COLD AIR SOUTHWARD A WEEK FROM TODAY. BOUNDARY LAYER TEMPS AT THIS

JUNCTURE LOOK PLENTY COLD ENOUGH FOR SNOW /H8 FALLING TO -10C/ AND

THIS IS CONSISTENT ON MOST MEDIUM RANGE NUMERICAL MODELS. AS THE

CASE WITH LATE SEASON POTENTIAL SNOWFALL...SURFACE TEMPS ARE

CRITICAL AND GIVEN 2M TEMPS WILL BE WELL INTO THE 40S...WET SNOW

WILL LIKELY BE CONFINED TO THE EARLY MORNING HOURS WHERE THE

MERCURY IS AT OR NEAR ITS LOWEST. ANY ACCUMULATION AT THIS POINT

WILL BE LIGHT.

BTW-NWS Pit radar is down again waiting parts. This seems to happen every couple months. Don't know if it is a Pittsburgh problem or national problem. They need to change something.

Looks like everyone get a solid covering tomorrow night.

Although i could see bethelpark snownut getting high advisory / low warning amounts.

Looks like another M/D line special, areas south of I-70 should get the best qpf. With it coming in during daylight hours though and not really heavy snow with marginal boundary layer temps most outside the higher elevations will likely just have a slushy coating to an inch I am thinking.

Overall though this was a pretty big bust by the Euro. I didn't follow closely but there were a couple of runs that had a crushing storm for areas to the east of us. Frankly I'll be glad to just move on from this lousy winter but it looks like cooler weather will be around for awhile so we may see flakes in the air again this season after today.

Yes I keep jumping around. Loved the warmup and thunderstorms and it got me ready for spring storms. At this point if it won't be anything big let's move on and warm up. in 8 more months we will be tracking again. I am looking forward to thunderstorm watching. Odds are better in the spring/summer.

Especially if we transition into a Nina it could be a interesting Spring and early summer for thunderstorms.
