January 22-24th Blizzard Observation and Snow Reports

The Iceman

Recommended Posts

Man what a day! Went for a 4 mile hike/trek during the storm and it was just amazing. Snowing heavy again. Due to drifting I can't get a great measurement but somewhere between 22-25 inches. One of the best storms of my life, I can't believe it's still ripping outside.

In the Princeton area it must have been nice! I hope took pics, for memories.

I'm only 17 and I have said before that nothing will ever beat two 15+ in one week back in 2010. Well, I think this storm may have done it. Thanks for the fun ride guys, it's been real

edited: 25" now

This has reminded me of the '96 storm being more powdery - although I don't recall getting dry-slotted during '96.

Where are you measuring in Chesco??

Near Honey Brook. Have some good elevation here too at 850 ft.

It's not official CoCoRaHS standards, but measured 16" for first snowblow of driveway around 10am and then 9.5" around 4pm at second snowblow. 2" since that time.

So 27.5" total. Depth is probably more like 25"

Congrats Lehigh Valley!!!!!!!!!!!!

Previous storm record for ABE was something like 27", correct?  This blows it away and continues to pile up, albeit more slowly.

So ABE got 30" of snow in the last 19 hours, and 22" in the last 12 hours.

Yes, the death band that set up in the early afternoon was very impressive.  It was tough to measure with the wind and drifting but the snow depth thankfully was consistent with the averages which were received from the snowfall measurements on the board.  Been living here in the Valley since 1962 and never have seen anything like what I witnessed today.  I truly believe it will take multiple days to fully dig out.  Oh, and light snow continues.....

Sounds reasonable I am at 680 ft here and had 24" a couple hours ago....will head out in the next hour for my next plow and see where we are should be close to done at that time but may end up as 6th largest snow event in Chesco if we get to 27"
