Jan 23/24 2016 obs/nowcast - the fight for the North

Yea, the pain. Went to nap with flakes and like 3 hrs later, still struggling to moisten the column.

Now I look at both rgem and gfs cut back.

Let's see what happens.

I agree with the RGEM but look again at the GFS. It most certainly did not cut back. It shifts the whole qpf gradient nward 10-20 miles...over Fairfield county itself its about close the same...

Edit: Latest HRRR has about a Foot for me by 00Z tonight and about 7" for you...I still like my call for 8-14" for the southern 4 counties about..

The last few frames of the OKX radar show the northern edge sort of bust through a wall and start marching neward..

Latest HRRR runs and every 6Z model is encouraging except the RGEM which would indicate less the 00Z.

As Dennis Hopper says in speed. "It's getting on 11 AM Jack and i think it's going to be a very pretty day...."

On second thought, rgem has been awful with this so far so I'm tossing it lol. :weenie:

When I made this last night around 11, every single model jumped North quite a bit and the NWS issued blizzard warnings and uped their amounts to 12-18 for the shore and I thought it might not be enough and have to increase it again but now I think it's about perfect for what's taking shape..

Good luck Runnaway.

0.0/ extremely light snow has begun..

my brother in W CNJ is ground zero. man i am so happy for him cuz hes had a rough 6yrs struggling with addiction and has come out of it strong.....he missed boxing day 2010 and the Jan 2011 systems. this is his first big one since PDII 2003.

reporting 10" otg, hard to tell really, and just crazyiness. hahahaha i love it.

thats discouraging...

Everything is on track. The latest HRRR someone posted shunts the precip even out of far SWCT. Looking at the radar it's clearly wrong already.

This is probably the only time I can say this with credibility - ride the nam. NAM bam thank you ma'am.

Expecting 4-6" here which is a huge win all things considered. I think we'll see lots of 20+ in NYC and maybe tickling Greenwich. LGA and JFK already reporting 7"
