...HAZARDOUS WINTER CONDITIONS THIS EVENING...

AN STRONG ARCTIC COLD FRONT WILL MOVE ACROSS THE MID-ATLANTIC THIS
EVENING. THROUGH 8 PM EXPECT SNOW SHOWERS AND SQUALLS AND WINDY
CONDITIONS AS THE FRONT MOVES THROUGH...ALONG WITH POSSIBLE
THUNDERSNOW.

BURSTS OF HEAVY SNOW COULD PRODUCE A QUICK COATING TO AN INCH OF
SNOW ACCUMULATION IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. WHITEOUT CONDITIONS
AND THUNDERSNOW HAVE ALREADY BEEN REPORTED IN WESTERN MARYLAND
.

ROADS WILL BECOME SNOW COVERED AND SLICK THIS EVENING. ALSO...WINDS
ACCOMPANYING THE SNOW SHOWERS AND SQUALLS WILL BECOME STRONG...
GUSTING 40 TO 50 MPH
. THE COMBINATION OF SNOW SHOWERS AND STRONG
WINDS WILL LEAD TO VISIBILITIES OF ONE HALF MILE OR LESS. THESE
LOW VISIBILITIES WILL DEVELOP SUDDENLY.

TRAVELERS ACROSS THE REGION ARE ADVISED TO USE EXTREME CAUTION
THROUGH THIS EVENING.
BE PREPARED FOR RAPIDLY CHANGING CONDITIONS
AS THE ARCTIC FRONT MOVES THROUGH. BURSTS OF HEAVY SNOW WITH
SUDDEN VISIBILITY RESTRICTIONS COULD MAKE FOR DANGEROUS DRIVING
CONDITIONS.

AFTER THE SNOW ENDS LATE THIS EVENING...VERY COLD AIR WILL MOVE
INTO THE MID-ATLANTIC. THE VERY COLD AIR WILL ALLOW ANY SNOW OR
SLUSH ON AREA ROADS TO FREEZE...RESULTING IN ICY CONDITIONS. WIND
CHILLS WILL QUICKLY FALL INTO THE SINGLE DIGITS THIS EVENING.

That squall was so bad a&&. I got crushed by the stuff out in front of that beast. Then what happened was just full winter awesomeness. Got cold that night.

I love how the loop is centered over Rockville/North Bethesda. It shows how we really maxed out on that event (and several others during the winter) with the pre-front burst.

Favorite event of last winter. That one wasn't about totals of course. But it was so intense. It was a 1 hour onslaught of extreme winter precip + wind and then the airmass on the heels was ridiculous. Will never forget standing in my garage watching it unfold. Then I grilled steaks on the patio in howling winds and ground blizzards after the snow stopped. Loved it.

Can't have a winter without a fantasy run and appropriate shocker. We started early last year leading into the Tday fail.

I remember you and Zwyts posting that when the EURO would come in huge

That was a good one. I think I experienced lower visibility in the subsequent ground blizzard than in the actual snow squalls.

Great event. Got 1.7" in about an hour from that one, after .2" earlier in the day.

The December 2009 snowstorm... I am lucky I had a lead teacher in the classroom I was co-teaching in who understood and shared my passion for big snowstorms... I probably did more model watching then helping her teach the class in the few days leading up to the snow
