Drove through Iroquois IL today, on my way back to IKK. Naturally the town has the Iroquois River go through town.

Here's a snapshot of where it's gauge is located (orange dot just above left of the text):

A few pics I took of the flooding. US 52 runs through there, in case some may (or may not) be familiar.

Looking down river to the east:

Looking west. There's some sort of power line that's been overtaken by the river. Also, that's a train trestle in the distance.:

This is on the northside of the river, looking south. Basically, the trees are the bank of the river when not in flood. A lot of that water shouldn't be there. River gauge on the right side of the photo in the distance.

A couple more shots, closer to the gauge:

Lastly, a couple from the northside of the river...where it's usually farm land. Currently it's a large pond with drowning corn.

Just wanted to let everyone in on some internal chatter about the 4.75" hailstone in Minooka IL (part of town in far SE Kendall County, IL) on June 10th. We've been in touch with the state climatologist Jim Angel and the 6" hailstone in Kankakee County in April 1961 that we cited as the largest hailstone on record in IL is unverifiable and quite likely did not occur. A news article in the Chicago Tribune referenced hail drifts up to 6" in the area, which may have been confused for a hailstone measurement. The bottom line is that after some paperwork is completed, it's quite possible if not likely that the 4.75" hail on June 10th in Minooka was the largest hailstone on record in Illinois. I'm sure some official statement will be out once the process is complete.

Interesting stuff. So the 6" report would be invalidated after all these years?

Surprisingly, the 6" report was actually never really validated and IL has never had an official record for largest hailstone. It's just something that was listed and no one ever checked if it was legit.
