Even though ORD only hit -2, RFD dropped to -14.  I wold say that half of the difference is due to UHI at ORD...and the other half is due to the fact that RFD went calm for several hours, whereas ORD didn't.

The -14 at RFD is the 2nd coldest temp on record for so late in the season (it was -15 on 2/27/1994).

I think RFD actually hit -15 last night....maybe intrahour

Record low -4 tied today at dtw. This is Detroit's 5th record low this month (records to 1874). Outlying areas near -20 again. Flint has set 9 record lows this month (records since 1921) and Saginaw set 7 record lows (records to 1898) this month.

Perhaps another record for the books... Most record lows in a month/season/year ??

Wow, Monticello Iowa already down to -15.  Gonna be some very low temps tonight the way things are going.  850s have warmed compared to early this morning, but it's dead calm over a wide area underneath this high.

HRRR showing -20 right over us by 4am.  Probably overdoing things, but who knows.
