Dolphin is now a Category 4 equivalent cyclone via the JTWC, with 1-minute winds of 135 mph. Looking at satellite animations, although some dry air is still evident in the northern semicircle, the eye is becoming warmer and more circular, eyewall convection is becoming more evenly distributed around the core rather than weighted to the south, and the convection itself is deepening. The storm should become a Category 5 equivalent overnight--another impressive cyclone in an incredibly fast-paced season to date.

Typhoon Chan-Hom expected to track near Guam in two days (July 4th, 18z... after midnight in Guam??). Just looked at Ryan Maue's twitter feed, saw some information on Ty Chan-Hom. The HWRF cranks it up to 135kt in 5 days (July 7) over open ocean. If it gets to 135kt, it would be the top of the Category 4 in the Saffir-Simpson scale.

The models last night were cranking out a very intense typhoon. GFS, Euro and cmc all had it but I haven't checked them today.

GFS has lost it but the CMC and euro still have a very strong hurricane. Looks like the euro gets it down into the 920's MB while the cmc is 940ish.

Soudelor has taken a direct hit on Saipan as a rapidly intensifying typhoon. Pressures were recorded as low as 958 mb before the barometer went offline.

Thats good RI going on and I wouldn't be surprised to see it continue for another 12 hours or more. The models have been really bullish on this one making its way on a pretty straight WNW heading right towards Taiwan. Euro has it getting down to 917mb eventually.

Thanks for posting that radar animation, Superstorm93. That is awesome. At the time that it was close to Andersen AFB, I had totally forgotten that the typhoon would be able to be seen on radar. Sad to hear about Saipan.

Typhoon Soudelor has been analyzed at 135kt by the JTWC at 12z. It is expected to soon be 150kt.

Ryan Maue (@RyanMaue) tweeted this:

09z JTWC forecast only maxed out Typhoon #Soudelor at 135 knots ... expecting 155 knots forecast or nowcast in 15z update.
