The core of the WCB is just to the south of the RI coast right now near LI..that surge into eastern areas is the key window over the next 4-5 hours. I'd expect the snow rates to really pick up (where it is snow of course and not rain) in the next 30-60 minutes.

 

850mb low is beginning to take shape now and as that becomes more defined lift will begin to increase further as we'll begin to see numerous reports of 2 to perhaps near 3'' per hour rates at times,

Really cool inertial gravity waves moving through. I think it's messing with the precip fields a bit in this area.
