5 hours of oak leaves today. Just a sick amount of leaves . Oaks are 95% bare now. Gotta get up leaves over next few days as the snow next week will cover them up all winter and you'll get nasty leaf rot on your lawn

This after telling me most trees had leaves last weekend so you could maximize damage.

well bad news on the work front. Museum is seasonally closing Dec 1 to May 1, they layed off /eliminated the jobs of  38/47 employees including my wife. I am still employed but reopening will be limited, cut hours cut pay,. My wife is devastated after 21 years here but is going back to school to be an Dog Trainer/Groomer (her passion). I will be OK as I planned well but no doubt it hurts as I lost peeps who I spent 20 plus years working with here.

Sorry to hear that, Steve--that really stinks.  I hope all impacted are able to land on their feet quickly!

Ugh man, that's really rough.  So very sorry to hear.

Very sorry to hear that but I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason.  Loyalty is in short supply these days and the gap between the haves and have-nots is growing (not bad for a Republican, huh?).  I have friends employed at both casinos and, like you and your wife, they are just waiting for the other shoe to drop after 20+ years of dedicated service.

It furthers my opinion that this "destination resort" stuff the casinos are running with is far fetched.  Most people go to casinos in the northeast to gamble, drink and eat.  I know of several hotel operators who laugh at the thought of those casinos throwing off residual business from vacationers at the casino.  It simply never amounted to much.

That museum is awesome, by the way, and it is a damn shame that it apparently can't make it on a year round basis.

Thanks man, yes it is very awesome and the awards and reviews from museum professionals and travelers from across the globe speaks volumes. It is really sad for me personally as I have my heart and soul in my work. Hopefully things turn around for them. They do have some plans in the works  that supplement well their casino business but thats years away and I will be retired by then. competition, economy and bad decisions , the terrible trifecta. I have been programming shutdown schedules on computer run systems today and its not fun. In between downloads/uploads I get to geek here but looking at my coworkers faces it hurts.

A bunch of dealers got their walking papers today, too.

They're going to be building one down in Springfield.  They actually had a ballot initiative n the election to reverse the law allowing them to build it.  It failed.  They had argued that a casino would bring crime to the area.  Worried that crime might come to Springfield.  Really???

Sorry Ginxy...that's a shame. I didn't realize the museum was casino owned. Will they be open full time in the summer?

More time to ski though?

The Tribe who owns the Casino owns it, different revenue streams. Yes May 1st but no idea if that's full time. Huge upheaval, total reorganization and no staff . I'll get back to you in April

Looks like some fun at NCEP today. Seemed like severe wx weenies hacking into SPC and transmitting old bulletins, but now random stuff is popping up.

LOOKS LIKE SPC IS NOT THE ONLY NCEP CENTER SEEING OLD PRODUCTS
BEING TRANSMITTED FROM UNKNOWN SOURCE.. PLEASE IGNORE ADMIN
MESSAGE FROM APRIL 26 2010.. SORRY.. NO TESTING IS BEING
PERFORMED THAT WE ARE AWARE OF AT NCEP.. NCF/TOC STILL
INVESTIGATING SOURCE OF THESE OLD TRANSMISSIONS.

Was looking back at last year's storms. Given my lack of timely measurements and perhaps not so accurate measurements byu the significant other () I might be off by a few inches..on the higher side. It bothers me, but I think the Feb 5 storm was an inch high as well as one of the Dec storms. Now that I know the nuances of this windy place, it will be better this year.
