Did anyone see wind gusts or hail? Was surprised to see warnings issued. Just goes to show storms don't have to be severe to be damn impressive

Nope, very little wind. The rain and lightning were enough to make the storms quite impressive though. I saw a lot of CG strikes and there were some very close ones. Got about an inch of rain.

MT HOLLY , Round 2 .

SHORT TERM /6 AM THURSDAY MORNING THROUGH 6 PM THURSDAY/...
WE ARE ANTICIPATING THE FRONTAL BOUNDARY FROM THE NORTHWEST TO
STALL OVER OUR REGION ON THURSDAY. IT IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN TO
INTERACT WITH TROPICAL MOISTURE WHICH HAS BECOME ESTABLISHED IN
OUR REGION. AS A RESULT, WE ARE ANTICIPATING SHOWERS AND SCATTERED
THUNDERSTORMS TO DEVELOP ON THURSDAY MORNING AND THEY SHOULD
CONTINUE INTO THE AFTERNOON. PRECIPITABLE WATER VALUES WILL BE
AROUND 2 INCHES
. THE SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS SHOULD BE SLOW
MOVING AND WE ARE CONCERNED WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR FLASH FLOODING
FROM THE INTERSTATE 95 CORRIDOR NORTHWESTWARD.
WE HAVE ISSUED A
FLASH FLOOD WATCH FOR THOSE AREAS.

Why did these particular storms produce so much lightning? I'm familiar with lightning formation, just not what causes it in abundance like today's storms.

good charge separation in the cells due to CAPE extending pretty high up

Wife said , Great light show occurred in Colts Neck , Just lost power there  .

Yep, power just went back on here after being out for the past 2 hours. Wasn't even an impressive storm. Had less than 0.15" with a lot of lightning. Probably had a CTG strike hit a transformer or something.

Looks like that SNJ line could hit us.

Must be a fairly isolated area, but there is some wind damage in central Queens. There were a couple of large branches down along the Grand Central Parkway by Jewel Ave, and I have a tree down as well as some branches on the border of Kew Gardens/Richmond Hill.

We had some wind gust in western Nassau at the very beginning of the storm. They weren't severe and didn't last long but enough for a couple of branches to fall nothing crazy though. I could see how it would do damage in queens as the storm was definitely stronger when it hit there. As usual they weakened a bit as they moved east.
