Really? With 850's being so warm how does that happen?

I don't think spc is updated beside its just started so the cold air is still coming in aloft. But most def mixing since the cold is working in from the North.

Radar is showing that band east of danville coming through slowly. With temps cooling aloft and the heavy precip rates over 35db could switch over to heavy wet snow.

Temp is 37

Wow, the radar looks like the inside of a full trash can, behind that narrow band in Central/Western NC. VA looks good, though.

I was about to post the same thing! I don't have a dog in the fight, but that looks like a thin frontal band coming through NC! It's looking kind of busty, unless somehow that TN moisture can make it across the mtns and ESE!

910 am - recent examination of observational & model guidance suggests a slightly slower arrival of cold air...delaying the chage over by an hour or two in most of central NC.

It still would be smart to plan to do most of your traveling before the cold air arrives and not wait for the precipitation to change over and join the masses heading home at the same time.

Maybe it will. Who knows. But with the current radar look and the now slower arrival of the cold air, the chances for this to be a bigger deal for central NC seem to be dwindling.

Temp down to 35. Waiting on the snow line to come through which is on the move slowly. Appears from Martinsville, VA north of Danville and South Boston VA.

im not sure why people are looking for the moisture to come over the mountians... the moisture feed is coming from the north out of virginia....

The cold is coming down from the north but the moisture feed is coming from the west over KY and TN. That is all moving in a SE direction.

Looks like DC won't make 6". Some minor meltdowns by some in their OBS thread.

I can imagine, there local mets were putting out crazy snow maps, hyping everyone up. I would be pissed too although I would have model hugged the model with the lowest output for snow, the RGEM. If the RGEM is to be believed it has precip through the area until 8pm tonight, HRRR agrees. Will see...
