Correct me if I am wrong, but these storms are the appetizer? Main course to be when those cells in Iowa, WI merge into a line?

Not sure how the storms will ultimately evolve (always hard to predict), but the SPC WRF, from what I recall, showed the IL storms forming into the big derecho. Convective trends would certainly argue that right now, but still to early to say anything definitive.

Chicago itself is in a very different environment right now thanks to the marine boundary pushing through. I don't think they'll be much tornado threat with these initial cells at the least. Could still be wind/hail producers and obviously a rush hour problem.

60-80mph winds are still killer. Also we can get baseball size hail, which I have never seen at all. So it's going to be a crazy day today, we'll see. Ihave my generator ready for powerouts.
