AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BALTIMORE MD/WASHINGTON DC
832 AM EST WED MAR 6 2013

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
AT 0830AM...QUICK UPDATE MADE TO MORNING FCST BASED ON CURRENT
RADAR/OBS. RAIN/SNOW LINE IS JUST TO SOUTHEAST OF A LINE FROM
BWI/ADW/DCA. SOUTHEAST OF THIS LINE...MOSTLY RAIN IS FALLING WITH
SURFACE TEMPS IN UPPER 30S...TO EVEN LOW 40S OVER SRN MD.

LOW PRESSURE IS NOW OVER THE NORFOLK METRO AREA...WITH AN EASTERLY
WIND ADVECTING MARINE AIR OVER SRN MD. AS THE BOTH THE SURFACE AND
UPPER LOW MOVE TOWARDS THE NORTH DURING THE DAY TODAY...WINDS ARE
EXPECTED TO BECOME MORE NORTHERLY AND DRAW IN COOLER AIR. FOR THIS
REASON...STILL EXPECTING A CHANGEOVER TO SNOW ALONG AND EAST OF
THE I-95 CORRIDOR. ADJUSTED SNOWFALL TOTALS DOWN S AND E OF
BWI/DCA BASED ON LOWER SNOW ACCUM IN THE MORNING. ALSO ADJUSTED
TOTALS ALONG AND W OF THE BLUE RIDGE BASED ON REPORTS.

I'm really confident in whats to our southeast. I think within the hour down to the inner harbor rips sn+ and the entire area.

Coming at the exact right time to save the day. That will pivot not far from us and dc may continue to be smoked.

Things looking up for a bit here

Lwx just updated and largely maintained totals away from the bay on their snow map!

Perhaps, but ain't no way I'm seeing 6-8 inches of snow in Federal Hill, which is what LWX's snow map appears to have for me. Fingers crossed that these heavier bands rotating up the bay will put me in SN+. I'll believe it when I see it. No snow here since about 4:00 a.m., even in the heaviest of precip.

2-5" would be more likely imo

We lucked out in getting accumulation overnight, but it's been pretty boring since about 4:30 or so. That band in MD looks to be rotating in shortly.

I'm in it now and it is decent but needs to dump for a while to get it to pile up
