Pretty good stretch of sun coming for central and eastern NC, its bright blinding sun outside right now reflecting off all the water from the earlier rain. Things might get nasty after all in a few hours.....

Greg Fishel just said on WRAL how the sun is out in eastern NC and the storms could get stronger as they head east because of the heating.

Cell just east of Fayetteville getting that look, some rotation forming might see a tor warning on it soon if it keeps it up.....

Been canceled it wasnt that tight of a rotation kinda surprised they went with a warning on it......

Dude me too...When I noticed the warning and took a peek at radar, I couldn't notice any definitive rotation at all...I was wondering what they were thinking...Someone hit the wrong button...

NEAR ZEBULON IN WAKE COUNTY NORTH CAROLINA ON SEPTEMBER 18,

2012.

AN NWS DAMAGE SURVEY THIS MORNING HAS CONCLUDED THAT A WEAK EF-0 TORNADO

BRIEFLY TOUCHED DOWN TUESDAY AFTERNOON JUST WEST OF THE TOWN OF

ZEBULON, NC. THE TORNADO DAMAGE WAS FOUND IN A STAND OF TREES AS A

WELL-DEFINED DAMAGE PATH OF ABOUT ONE-HALF MILE LONG AND ABOUT 30

YARDS WIDE. BASED ON TYPE OF TREES AFFECTED AND THE MAGNITUDE OF

DAMAGE...THE WIND SPEEDS ARE BELIEVED TO HAVE TOPPED OUT AT AROUND

75 MPH...WHICH CATEGORIZES THIS AS AN EF-0 TORNADO ON THE ENHANCED

FUJITA SCALE. NO STRUCTURAL DAMAGE WAS FOUND DURING THIS SURVEY

AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES OR FATALITIES.

Jones County Tornado – September 18, 2012

Event Overview –

The National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City, NC has confirmed a tornado near Trenton in Jones County, NC on September 18, 2012.

There were three distinct damage paths from what appeared to be three separate touchdowns along the 5 mile total path. The first touchdown tracked for about 0.15 miles and was about 100 yards wide. It downed a large tree onto Highway 41, destroyed a greenhouse and damaged a shed and outbuilding at a residence. A vehicle was damaged by flying debris. The second touchdown was mainly evident in tree damage. It also flipped a farm irrigation system. It was estimated to be about 150 yards wide and may have tracked for about 0.5 miles. The third and final touchdown was about 300 yards wide and tracked for about 0.25 miles. It occurred near the intersection of Highway 41 and Whitaker road. Aside from knocking down one very large tree, damage was mostly limited to large tree limbs and branches, and a few road signs. The damage category never exceeded an EF0.
