From my novice point of view, heights built really fast right when we needed them to on this run - was the 500h similar to Euro depiction but the difference being a stronger S/W? meaning the 500h was able to interact with the southern stream and grab it before it scooted ots.

The differences in Canada between the 06z and 12z are crazy...open up two tabs and put the 06z 90hr and 12z 84 hr side by side. It's crazy.

yeah, it doesn't sharpen up until it reaches the east coast, and at that point, there's a lot of work to do to pull together a 4000 mile wavelength trough lol

The evolution is pretty interesting. The initial southern shortwave that moves through California is pretty damn anemic in the Mississippi Valley...then some energy comes that originates in the PAC NW around 48 hours comes down the back edge of trough and digs it substantially finally allowing something substantial to develop and crawl up the coast.
