Big time mid level frontogenesis occuring.

Definitely...about as strong as you'll see. It's continuing to strengthen as well which is sick...as long as this occurs this should support the development and strengthening of that forced line...you just hope the line doesn't outrun all this mid/upper level support...given how we have decent ridging still over our area hopefully this does not happen.

See how the wind barbs converge across sw PA? Picture the airmass now getting stretched to the north with the sse flow. What you are doing is packing the isotherms and helping to generate a frontogenic circulation where air rises on the warm side, and sinks on the cool side. Below is 700-500 frontogenesis and 700 frontogenesis.

new day 1

...MID ATLANTIC COAST/SRN NEW ENGLAND... INTENSE VORTICITY MAXIMUM AND ASSOCIATED 100+ KT MIDLEVEL JET STREAK OVER THE TN VALLEY INTO CNTRL/SRN APPALACHIANS WILL CONTINUE TO LIFT NEWD WITH A CORRIDOR OF 200+ M/12 HR HEIGHT FALLS OVERSPREADING THE REGION THROUGH THE PERIOD. AT THE SURFACE...STRENGTHENING COLD FRONT FROM THE LEE OF LAKE ONTARIO SWD TO CHESAPEAKE BAY AND FAR ERN NC AS OF 15Z WILL SURGE EWD TO OFF THE MID ATLANTIC COAST BY AFTERNOON...AND EVENTUALLY THROUGH MUCH OF NEW ENGLAND BY THU MORNING. 12Z OBSERVED SOUNDINGS AND CURRENT SURFACE OBSERVATIONS INDICATE THAT COLD FRONT IS NOW INTERACTING WITH THE REMAINING ONSHORE AXIS OF HIGHER THETA-E AIR OVER ERN NC INTO THE TIDEWATER REGION...WITH A COMPARABLY COOLER AND DRIER BOUNDARY LAYER PRESENT AHEAD OF THE FRONT NWD INTO THE HUDSON VALLEY. A SMALL TEMPORAL/SPATIAL RISK FOR LOCALLY DAMAGING WIND GUSTS WILL BE POSSIBLE FOR THE NEXT HOUR OR SO OVER DE PERHAPS INTO SERN PA/SRN NJ WHERE CONVECTION HAS RECENTLY INTENSIFIED ALONG THE NRN EDGE OF LOW-LEVEL MOIST AXIS. ELSEWHERE...ISOLATED STRONG WIND GUSTS WILL BE POSSIBLE WITH THE PASSAGE OF FORCED CONVECTIVE BAND ALONG THE FRONT...THOUGH THE STABLE BOUNDARY LAYER CONDITIONS SHOULD PRECLUDE A MORE SUBSTANTIAL SEVERE THREAT.

Winds are howling down here at the beach, estimating gusts to 45, in an almost pulsing nature. That squall line means business, winter to begin in just a few short hours.

Nice to have a southerly wind event pan out!

The tightening pressure gradient is really helping things out I think. Plus with the strong WAA occurring were getting some better mixing to occur.

Incredible winds right now at Stowe/Mansfield... I was up at 3,300ft a little while ago and easily some of the more impressive wind I can remember up there. Above 3,000ft it is blowing hard enough to push you around and the stronger gusts almost suck the air out of you... it makes you want to get into the fetal position, haha.

BTV VAD showing 80kts of wind at 4,000ft right now, 50kts down to 2,000ft. Our weather station on the Ski Patrol hut at 3,600ft has been recording 1-minute sustained wind of 50-60mph with gusts in the 70-80mph range.

From 3,600ft to the 4,300ft summit elevation the wind is absolutely ripping in every sense of the word. Here's the station at 3,900ft, which hasn't been updating since 9am this morning. But the wind has been on the increase all day long, so I'm sure this station is getting crushed right now, seeing as it was already gusting over 70mph by 8am this morning:
