Nice post. The wave break is a thing of beauty, something we haven't seen in AK in a solid 2 months. Blizzard watches/warnings for much of south central AK and the Aleutians/Akpen.
On a side note, this storm has one of the most elongated frontal bands I have ever seen, stretching from the eastern ALeutians to just off the coast of W North America.

Impressive beast it was. I posted a IR image in the AK thread. Interestingly, in terms of pure cyclogenesis, it was a relatively "steady state" rapid deepening with an insufficient upper PV/jet configuration to really develop the extreme bent-back seclusion seen in full on cyclones. Sounds weird saying that for a storm that deepened to 936 hpa at such a far S latitude. The beast in the N Atl day 3-4 is going to make this event look relatively unimpressive, if that is even possible.
