I have not encountered one individual not wearing a mask in a grocery store/ enclosed setting since at least last April 1. Dupage county 20 miles west of downtown Chicago. Never really saw the controversy. People, by and large follow common sense and do what's in the best interest of their fellow citizen. Just my personal encounters for right or wrong. Should add I'm in a grocery store 5 days a week, and was not even aware  there was a national mandate I was consumed with tracking snow events.

Mask usage is just fine in this area overall, but the same can't be said if you get away from the major metropolitan regions. Also, just like Stebo I see a lot of people at work who have them on, but don't wear them properly. It seems like those are the same people who declined the vaccine at work too. It was an absolute nightmare for me from October to early February and it sucked. I'm vaccinated now, but I'm still going to wear a mask for the foreseeable future. The vaccines will absolutely reduce transmission, but the prevalence is just too high right now to move away from masks.

Have my first shot scheduled next Thursday morning, right before a set of 7 midnight shifts. And then my coworker and midnight shift partner has his second shot the next morning. Our MIC is on standby for possibly needing to cover one or two shifts.

From reading the articles about the greatly amplified immune response to the vaccine among covid survivors, and also a friend who had covid about a week after me having had pretty intense symptoms from the first shot, I'm hoping it's not too crazy for me. That said, even though there's some experts saying covid survivors may not need to get the second shot, I currently plan to get the 2nd shot.

The reactions seem to be different for everyone. I only had a sore arm from both shots and no fever/chills type stuff at all.(Moderna) Some others from my work had fatigue and headache from the 2nd shot. One person did have a fever around 100 degrees for a few hours.

Someone who had covid around Thanksgiving just got his first shot and he only had a sore arm as well. The sore arm improves significantly within 48 hours.

I'm waiting to see people clamoring for lockdowns to protect the population against the new variants that the vaccine doesn't protect against.

The vaccines do protect against them, but the vast majority of the population isn't vaccinated...

Uncontrolled spread is what causes the variants to pop up so why wouldn't we want to have some restrictions in place to keep that from becoming a huge problem while we vaccinate people? Some of us want this to be over

Been a recent uptick in cases at work that is driving a move back to staffing restrictions. The office has been a bellwether for trends in the national population, so I’ll be curious to see how things shake out the next few weeks.

My work has been like that during this pandemic as well. We had a full blown outbreak heading into Thanksgiving, but it has been quiet since late December. A bunch of us have been vaccinated so we might not follow the national trends anymore.

Likely to see a pretty active pattern indeed. we will see how it pans out. The pattern overall will be active but strong frontal intrusions in the wake of these high amplitude systems is going to be an issue. I like what the euro is showing however.. esp Friday and into the weekend

This might be key going forward. I'm hoping one of these systems can be a sacrificial lamb and get the moisture flowing without sweeping it back out in its wake.

  6. The upcoming period should be rather active, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a decent event come from it at some point. With that being said, I wouldn't get into too many details with the system next week. It has potential, but it also has moisture concerns written all over it.

If we get into a period of somewhat prolonged western troughing then I wouldnt mind having that first system prime the moisture pump for something bigger to follow it.

  7. The GFS and Euro both have a decent look in the day 9-10 range. This one has my attention and it should be something to keep an eye on as we get closer.

Quincy mentioned good moisture return a few days ago and it looks like that will still be true for any potential system during the upcoming time period. We'll see how this evolves after the cut off moves through this week.
