  1. The line went thru with blinding rain, winds strong but my highest gust was before the line passed thru. 1.80 inches of rain so far and a peak gust of 45mph. Very nasty night but not quite as bad as I thought.

Watertown gusting to 78 at 48 degrees

I guess that makes sense if you are talking Watertown upstate NY. They would be right between the approaching low and the retreating high. Big pressure gradient.

I think what he is saying is his expectations for his own PWS. Being in a residential area you don’t get the same observations as you do at the airport or other official locations where the stations are unobstructed.

    Correct

It would be a bust for the rest of the area. I am expecting stronger winds than that and I am well inland.

Ok you could be correct. The highest wind gust at my house was 79mph during Sandy.

Okay but you said max gust for your area would be 50mph with sustained in the 20's. If that verified the whole storm would be a bust.

I would never call that a bust. I am basing that on the fact that there are obstacles that slow wind speeds down as you move inland, especially at 33 feet, the height of my anemometer. The 50mph is only what I would expect, not necessarily what will ultimately happen.
