  1. Good soaking rain today. Yard is starting to turn more green and trees are starting to turn as well.

Hard to believe we are approaching the month where we may see first flakes or even accumulation. Nov 1 last year was first flakes, and the year before was the last week of October accumulating snow. The lake should be primed from the warm fall!

  2. Had enough rain today? Up to 2.70" since this morning. Just a train of storms today with more to come. Looks like the airport didn't do so well. Hopefully the west side picks up some rain as well. Amazing how we can go from dry to wet so quickly.

I bet you tacked on another 1" to that from last evening and overnight. One of the rainiest days we've had for a while. Even more to come later today.

  3. Wow hadn't realized just how warm this may has been. I've also noticed it seems drier than the past few springs. Today feels much more like spring.

Forgot to do a winter wrap up.... I recorded (purely amateur) 109.5" of snow. A total of 36 snow "accumulating days" and average daily recording of 3". First accumulating snowfall was Nov 14, and last was April 23. Peak depth was 19" ( though there was probably a period with a few more inches).

This winter had alot more substantial events than last year. Last year I had 51 recorded events averaging 2.4". Even though last winter had more snow overall, this year was better overall with the snowcover length. Just imagine if December had just average snowfall ...

  4. And just when you thought spring was firmly in place, the 6z GFS pops a snowstorm with some accumulating snow at day 11 over NE Ohio.

Ughhh that's ugly. Its been so nice lately. A few trees have starter to bud, and grass is growing. Was just thinking about when the first mow would be. Maybe another week or two if it stays dry.

  5. CLE needs 1.9" to hit the seasonal average. It's definitely possible tomorrow night. These late season storms can easily turn all rain or surprise with an earlier switch over.

Sadly CLE is well over 70" for the season, but because several events were never recorded this winter (or adjusted weeks after the fact to 10:1 ratio) the "official" total is much lower. But it would be nice to get a few inches tomorrow night so that CLE can officially hit average for the season.

This is the same storm that models have been hinting at for a good 10 days now. There have even been some fantasy runs last week showing a 2' blizzard. The consistency of showing some snow from Cleveland northeast to Upstate and Western New York has been noteworthy.

After such a snowy stretch this winter, it would be nice if they could "officially " finish avg or above. It's ridiculous that the recording is so screwed up. Hopefully tomorrow night has some surprises. I wouldn't mind one last snow, as it looks to melt quick anyways. The dry cold/cool stretch is getting old. The warmth today is awesome however!

  6. Snow is down to piles finally. This was the longest period of snowcover I can remember. The snow in the woods/shady areas was resilient... there are still large patches around. My yard has sunk in spots as much as 6" from the weight of the snow.

Interesting observation about the yard low spots. Wonder if this has to do with the soft ground vs frozen that the snow accumulated on? I'll have to see if I notice any spits.

  7. The snowpack is finally starting to erode. It has been a slow melt thankfully. Last night I measure anywhere from 4 - 8 inches in the protected/shady areas. Hopefully it will be gone by the weekend outside of the piles.

I am quite surprised with how long it has hung on. Just goes to show how dense and compacted it was. Ya, I'm sure with the rain over the weekend it will finally be gone. The temps this week have felt great! Spring fever is starting to kick in.

  8. Dropped down to -7 last night IMBY. Hopefully that's the last below zero. Let the melt begin!

Ya I'm definitely done with this cold. Looking forward to next week, 40s and sun will feel so nice. Can't wait to get this last layer of ice off of the driveway too.

I do feel we have another storm or 2. Maybe some lake effect if we get a good cold blast later.
