  1. I wanted to start this topic early.  Is anyone going to chase even though the odds are clouds? I chased the 2017 all the way to Duke energy in South Carolina and it was an absolute life-changing experience.  Our plan is to take a bunch of fellow News12ers and friends to Plattsburgh to Airborne Speedway Park parking lot, right off the Northway.  Our options that morning from our staging spot at Lake George could get us anywhere from buffalo/Niagara (Traffic issues for sure) to Vermont.  My record to get to Airborne Speedway from the NJ Beach is just under 5 hours - it's an easy drive.

    Thoughts?

  2. Concerning to coastal areas is a modeled ocean storm this weekend and into early next week to coincide with the spring tide full moon.  We will have to watch this closely for effects on an already eroded coastline from wildwood to long island after this winter.

  3. Somehow my flight made it into Atlantic City without any delays or issues yesterday morning! Although it was snowing lightly, it did not stick  - in fact, when I got home to point beach, there was absolutely no trace or signs it even snowed. However, heading to work today, there was snow on the ground in Wall. I think the models completely overdid everything south of the 195 corridor.

I have a flight coming back from Florida on the 13th.. hope can make it back

TPA to Acy, landing at 11:30am.  Spirit. Dunno what their policy is to change dates but.... hopefully I won't have to find out.

  5. Just took a break from mentally exhausting ocean county bs to catch up on the pages in here. Great discussions all. Looks like the Florida rule won't grant us a snowstorm this year unfortunately. Every year I head to Tampa for Super Bowl weekend and we usually get nailed while away. Hopefully second half of the month delivers. Non-weather stories are boring. Keep in mind as well while the shore areas rocked during 2010-2018, those living west, and in NEPA got skunked. Here's hoping for a trackable SOMETHING by month's end.

  6. I'm doing a story tonight on the difficult decision making process behind the scenes which superintendents face.  Looks like we picked the right district, focusing on Jackson Township.  Kinda surprised to see a warning here actually.  I don't see how with this current forecast schools would even attempt to open as the super told me they are moving away from early dismissals.  That never made sense to me, let's send the kids home in the worst conditions.

  7. I just came back from Shore Acres in Brick NJ where you couldn't tell the difference from the drone what was lagoon and what was street.  I know it looks pretty to live there but why deal with this every year?

Because they are too busy announcing a massive snowstorm for the weekend that was never going to be a massive snow storm.  Massive is 2FT +  not 6-8"

can you show me what station did this around here?

I know they are all focused on the first event and in this thread also. But another issue is the total QPF forecasted for the next week is concerning for the flooding potential from both events. They haven’t really touched base on that on the tv stations.

We are very aware behind the scenes but as one poster said one event at a time for on air purposes.  I've been more concerned about next week than Saturday/Sunday tbh.

  10. The sad thing about this is the fact tv stations who have not been overly hyping this, rather holding fort with the "stay tuned as the situation unfolds and we learn more information" messaging is lost by the fact that social media is plastered with the snowiest model runs starting last weekend by the fakes.  Folks will once again say "where's my snow" without ever even listening to the on air mets, and instead say they were wrong again.

Someone want to start another thread for the 1/9-10 storm? This thread was created for both.

This one has my attention more than Saturday/Sunday event only because of the widespread potential of bad consequences.
