I'm by no means downplaying that. Aside from a limited surge, the situation is dire. It's just a person has good odds, even avoiding injury, sheltering in a solid structure. If a slope gives way into the same described structure. Well, it's not good either way, but to the point, it's far more difficult to survive the latter.
I don't even know if the surge is going to be that limited that bay is looking like a prime catcher's mitt for this path

Yes, generally, the surge isn't going to be the most dangerous aspect of Otis, despite it being a Cat 5. It has a small core. Winds will be devastating within the eyewall, especially for elevated structures on sloped terrain. And, of course, mudslides, which still remain the greatest threat to life regardless of catastrophic wind.
It has a small core going over a super populated area and it's going to meander there for a bit

Needs to plow due N to spare the worst damage at this point. Last second left turn (aka NHC track) would actually be a huge negative.
Looks like the turn has started. Going right into the city

Massively overdeveloped in a catastrophe waiting to happen when there's the Cat 5 they're due for.
Why would the buildings there be more susceptible than the buildings in Fort Lauderdale or Miami

And OT, but it's becoming more inhabited every year with bigger apartment/condo buildings going up, literally on a big sand dune. It's becoming the Pompano Beach of NY. It's nuts.
What happened in Pompano Beach

The obsession with the SS scale is tedious. This is a storm surge situation first, a few MPH either way in the wind estimates are not significant.
This is a CAT 5

Just took a drive through my town and there are abandoned cars all over the place, roads washed out, and debris all over the place.
All the alerts probably confused some people. Tornado warning, go to the basement...Flash Flood warning, get to higher ground...
Yes the flash flood warning and the emergency is very confusing to most people

We do it with oil, moving it all across the country in pipelines...... No reason we can't do it for water, but we would need much larger pumps and pipes. I wouldn't bother treating it until it needs to be drank.... Just dump it into lake Mead lol
There is a massive ecological problem. Water is very different from different parts of the country. Also, bacteria, algae, ect from long transport.

buy/rent a dehumidifier and hit the moisture hard. drop desiccant everywhere you feel like, it’s a hell of a lot easier to remove than mold and a hundredth as dangerous and costly as mold is. be liberal with bleach on spots if you think you have mold growth. if you have the means get a professional early before it starts manifesting because it’s like bedbugs, an ounce of prevention is a pound of cure.
area mold professionals will be busy and charging accordingly. if you put some work in over the next few days you will save yourself a lot of time money and stress.
Thanks man, really soild advice.
I already put the dehumidifiers into hose mode and have fans going.
Low dew point will help today too -

hey man I have dealt with my own flooding during Irene and want to say I hope you are doing well, it can be real stressful shit.
be aggressive with mold.
Yeah, I ended up doing pretty well once I was able to wall off the water, but it was insane at one point.
Any tips for the mold? Luckily the dew point will be like 40 tom -
