  2. my favorite weather year was from 3/3/1960 to 2/4/1961...four blizzards and a super hurricane...that's hard to beat...
  3. the driest decade was from 1956-1965...During that period NYC got five good winters and eight storms 10" or more...
  4. the drought broke in Sept. 1966...1953 had 20 days 90 or better before mid August and 12 in the streak...1963 just missed being the driest year on record...1964 did become the driest on record...1965 broke that record by a lot...1966 started off like 63-65 but a big turn in the pattern came in September 66...
  5. there have been many years with few 90+ days in NYC before mid August...many of them had most of their 90+ days after that...1960 had one before it got four at the end of August and early Sept...1973 had ten before eight straight at the end of Aug into early Sept...1970 had 22 90+ days...seven came in September...2015 had six in September...after the coolest start to August on record 1964 had six or seven more days 90 or better in late August and September...
  6. 1966 had three heat waves that peaked over 100 in Newark including three straight the beginning of July...2010 had twice as many 90+ days as 1966 but only one heat wave that peaked at or over 100...It probably was the hottest ever with four straight 100 degree days in early July...1966 had five total 100 degree days and 2010 four...
  7. recent years had some very hot days in September...you can't rule out that happening again...
  8. I like both Nick and Joe's forecast...Larry's fine lol...
  9. the best 4th of July weather of my life was in 1965...Sunny with a max of 90 and a min of 65 with very little humidity... http://www.weather.gov/media/okx/Climate/CentralPark/4thofJulywx.pdf

  11. yes that's it...The Poconos got 2" on top of what ever was left on the ground from April 6th...I think the 4/6 storm was a Miller B storm which usually misses DC on average...
  12. the winter of 1981-82 was great north and west of NYC...snowstorms on consecutive days in the Poconos mid December...The Poconos had continuous snow cover from mid December to mid March..Then 13" of snow on April 6th...April 7th stayed below freezing all day in NYC...another inch at Newark a few days later...-7 two days in a row at Newark airport in January...it was an underrated year because February and March had very little snow...
  13. FEB/Mar. 2007 had two sleet storms up here....Feb. 1970 had an ice storm up here... Snow in December is possible even during a mild fall and winter...
  14. I don't live here but I would vote for snowmageddon 2 because how rare is a major storm falling on top of more than a foot of snow...My favorite for NYC is Feb 1961 because of big snow falling on deep snow cover...as a kid 28" of snow on the ground was like living in heaven..
  15. Central Park hit 90 today...
  16. nice stats...What is DCA's hottest seven day periods of all time?...
  17. six for LGA is significantly low...same goes for JFK...
  18. 1941, 1939, 1938, 1927 were the only years with 90 in October...

  20. 1962 had 90 degrees the end of April and 99 degrees in May...It got cool the second half of July and it stayed cooler than average until the next Spring...The hot days had lower minimums...
  21. today was the first day with a minimum of 70 or higher in KNYC...for the record...last year had 51... year.. total min 70+ consecutive 70+ 1930..........26............8 1931..........34............7 1932..........25............6 1933..........33............6 1934..........26............4 1935..........29..........11 1936..........20............4 1937..........28............6 1938..........34..........12 1939..........44..........13 1940..........24............8 1941..........27............6 1942..........20............4 1943..........30............4 1944..........41..........14 1945..........29............4 1946..........11............3 1947..........30............5 1948..........29............6 1949..........43..........10 1950..........13............5 1951..........23............7 1952..........38..........12 1953..........34..........10 1954..........18............5 1955..........45..........13 1956..........20............5 1957..........31............5 1958..........26............4 1959..........46..........10 1960..........20............5 1961..........42............9 1962............8............2 1963..........14............5 1964..........19............4 1965..........17............4 1966..........40..........11 1967..........17............5 1968..........29............6 1969..........33............6 1970..........37..........10 1971..........45............9 1972..........30..........15 1973..........37..........11 1974..........26............3 1975..........23..........12 1976..........24............4 1977..........37............9 1978..........31..........13 1979..........42..........17 1980..........52..........22 1981..........39............8 1982..........30..........12 1983..........45..........13 1984..........40..........16 1985..........34............6 1986..........31............4 1987..........32............7 1988..........42..........21 1989..........28............5 1990..........32............8 1991..........31............7 1992..........14............4 1993..........35..........10 1994..........35............9 1995..........39..........18 1996..........22............5 1997..........27............8 1998..........39..........11 1999..........45..........13 2000..........22............4 2001..........30............9 2002..........43............9 2003..........33..........15 2004..........28............6 2005..........60..........14 2006..........41..........15 2007..........35............8 2008..........35............8 2009..........18............5 2010..........54..........22 2011..........40...........9 2012..........47..........10 2013..........51..........19 1876..........46..........14 1902..........16............8 1903..........18............5 1906..........61..........17 1908..........54..........16 1888..........17............6 ............................
  22. the analogs on my list are...1951, 1957, 1963, 1976, 1982, 1986, 1991, 2002...the average 90+ days is 19 in KNYC for those years...1991 and 2002 had well above the average and 1991 holds the record for the most in one year...2002 is in the top ten...1951, 1982 and 1986 all had below average 90+ days...1957 was above average also...1963 and 1976 was near average...I think we could see a day close to 100 again especially in Newark...
