  1. Yeah ignorant, greedy people thinking it's more important to get their tree off their line causing a bigger problem So it seems like Wednesday is looking 'good' for a LHV JP.
  2. 4/1/97 was warm to rain then flip and !THUMP! 17" in a couple of hours. What a storm that was. Now my power restoration status is back to "assessing' I was out driving around scrounging firewood from cut up downed trees and all.of a sudden the power lines next to me started bouncing, probably 6-8 feet! It snapped two poles off and the lines came crashing to the ground and took a transformer with them. All I could figure was someone cut a tree off the line further down the block and released the tension and sproing <> chaos. 30 minutes later our status went from Tuesday to unknown. Grrrr
  3. I think I'm going to go to BJ's in a little while and get a few boxes of Duraflame logs, those buggers burn really hot. Yeah there's a wee bit of comfort in having a restoration time rather than your situation. Good luck! At least this time I filled 3 5 gallon buckets before the storm so we'd have water to flush with. I'm hoping it doesn't get cold enough for long enough to be a problem. No power means no internet and my kids have assignments due tomorrow night so now I have to take them back to school today so they can get them in on time. Uggh, back to Poughkeepsie... again.
  4. Looks like Sunday night is the best case scenario to get power back and it may be longer than that. I'll be out of firewood by sunrise and the next few nights are going to be pretty cold. It sucks when you're on a well and can't run the pump and leave water dripping, the pipes freeze...
  5. 18k accounts in Putnam without power and I'm one of them Bummin'
  6. At least I'm not the one that got shafted this time It's still dumping, it's windy as could be and it's cold. Great storm that could only have been better if the snow wasn't melting from the bottom up and the whole foot or so that fell had been realized.
  7. Back to crazy heavy snow now and the wind is awesome. House is down 6* already. At least we have 3 cars with 3/4 tank so we can go out and sit in the driveway with the car running if it gets too cold.
  8. I have enough firewood for maybe 2-3 hours. Gonna be a long cold night. Gonna have to cuddle with the wife and dogs
  9. Pretty much all.of Mahopac is powerless My house is cooling off in a hurry with this raging NNE wind.
  10. Yup I noticed a few minutes ago that the cold is settling in earlier than forecast.
  11. I just clicked on a couple of random mesonet sites and it's colder here than on the north side of the 'Daks or most of western NY. A friend of mine just posted video of where he is in southern VT and it's snowing. Odd weather...
  12. And there's a great bike shop there. It's one of the few great ones in the area. Any chance we can get lucky and get the 'spring showers' out of the way early and have a nice M/A/M to get some quality outdoor time in?
  13. Using a composite from sites within 20 miles of my house puts me at 29". That's about 19" below average for the 22 years that I've lived here. Bringing that back to the early 70's I'd be about 13" below average. If the hype for the next few weeks is right there may just be a chance to get to average. The number of days of consistent snowcover is pretty weak though.
  14. I looked at the cams on the mesonet and saw white that wasn't there yesterday so figured I'd ask. Thanks.
  15. Hey @White Gorilla or @Juliancolton what's going on up there this afternoon, wet, white or frozen? I'll be heading that way around 4.
  16. Yup hit 80 here at the house. It was kinda nice to do some early yard cleanup in a t-shirt without the bugs and such. I'm hoping that we see a reasonable storm as the -nao sets in then another as it pulls out. I'm not looking forward to the mixed up frozen mess that's being forecasted for the next few days though. After it does leave though I think I'll be done with this winter, heck I could be done with it today actually especially after home heating oil jumped almost $.50 today
  17. I saw 70 on the dashboard a little while ago. Wearing jeans I felt overdressed
  18. I have snowshoes for sale They ought to work just as well for mud as for snow.
  19. No no no, it's all about snow totals. I guess you missed the memo Speaking of fog, that sure was a sketchy ride home last night and this morning ought to be nearly as much fun.
  20. Warm rain warm snow rain warm snow warm. I'm so confoozed
  21. Yeah there were a few bare spots when the clouds moved in around noon but I'd still have called it 95% cover. I just got home a little while ago and it's down to about 50% but judging by how dense the fog is and how warm the rain is I'm guessing it's gone by early tomorrow. What an ugly forecast for the week, rain and fog pretty much all the way through. Yuck
