  1. Hey NNEers I'm going to be up in the NEK for 4 days starting tomorrow and I'll be outdoors the entire time with no way to be indoors. Other than Thurs and Fri nights being a bit on the cool side do you think that the wetness forecast for Saturday and Sunday going to be significant or just a nuisance? I'm trying to figure out what to pack...
  2. Brrr it was a bit chilly up there. I was driving around the High Peaks area of the 'daks yesterday and it was in the mid 70's down in the towns and valleys but it looked like a whole different story up high. There were some beautiful lenticular cloud formations over a few of the highest peaks.
  3. I've had that happen and yeah it's disconcerting to say the least. About 15 years ago I was riding up a long hill, it was one of those hot and sweaty late afternoons in the high 90's and super humid, I got to the top and stopped to take a break and it was dead silent with no wind at all. A minute later a big black bear walked out and onto the trail about 15 feet in front of me and I nearly pooped in my pants. I must have gasped a little and it turned and stared right at me so I lifted my bike over my head and it did that puppy thing where they tilt their heads and look at you all cutesy like. Right then a little breath of wind came up the hill behind me and my sweaty scent made its way to the bear, it wrinkled its nose and grunted then turned and trotted off. Stinky mt biker 1, bear 0.
  4. Dry would also be good for the free show outside on the deck at the River Outpost Brewing Co in Peekskill tonight. Fresh beer, good tunes and an early summer sunset over the river sounds good to me.
  5. What an unexpectedly beautiful morning. Wouldn't it be something if the day turned out to be nice all day...
  6. What a beautiful day it was as you went north and uphill. When I left home this morning around 10 it was still grey and humid but by the time I crested the Taconics it was dry, sunny and breezy. It was gorgeous all the way up the Parkway, across the river and up into the high peaks area of the Catskills and then it actually got hot by the time I got back down into Kingston in the late afternoon. Not looking forward to a couple more dreary days ahead
  7. Last I looked it seems that you should be alright for working on it tonight, tomorrow morning too.
  8. Woohoo power is back Time for a shower It's starting to look like most of this next round of heavy rain might stay mostly south of here. Fingers crossed
  9. Is it ever going to stop raining? Fkn soggy, dreary blah I'm sick of hearing generators running This year sux so far Wonderful cold records, February warm records, 5 foot March, nice cool relatively dry April, all these good things BUT the extremes have worn me down.
  10. Kind of a weak game, only ~175 yards rushing What a rotten day, rain almost continuously since early this morning. Pretty much trapped here at home because it's a bad idea to leave with a generator going and can't do anything outside because it's soggy and muddy.
  11. Is there a way to safely cover a generator to keep it dry when it's raining? I'd hate to have something short out where the cords are plugged in.
  12. What a mess. Not quite as many trees down as in the early March storm but some big, old hardwoods this time as opposed to the mostly pines that went down last time. There were a couple of big transformer explosions, two on my street alone and they're still going down around the hill occasionally because there are a lot of trees on the lines stressing things badly. F NYSEG and their piss poor maintenance and refusal to cut trees that have the potential to cause problems
  13. Do you have a basement? If things get sketchy grab a beer and go down there. Me, I prefer to watch until the last second
  14. Definitely not defiantly Yup hot and humid out there now, energy is getting its thing together west of us and heading this way. This afternoon looks interesting.
  15. Yeah right? That cemetery is some nice quiet neighbors but is the wetlands a mosquito factory? What are the chances that big line of storms crossing I81 now falls apart before getting here?
  16. Nice. My hope for our next place when we finally get to move out of this suburban ick is to have a few acres that backs up to 'never to be developed' forest of some sort. I want to be able to ride my bike out the door and not have to be concerned with nosy neighbors with nothing better to do than whine about what I do or don't do. I also want to be able to have enough room to have my own playground right outside the door and an open hillside is part of that plan, if there's a couple of hundred vertical feet of north facing wooded hillside to ski on that would be a best case scenario. Yup, never get old
  17. How big is your place that you're just seeing these things now and it takes you 4 hours to mow?
  18. How warm did we get today? I saw high 80's on a couple of bank thermo's and 91 in my car. I went for a mt bike ride and it sure didn't seem that warm but it was really dry so that helps it to feel a bit cooler. Boy the woods dried out in a hurry with these couple of dry days. Soil moisture seems to be holding up well 1" down but the surface is crackly and dusty already.
  19. I'm sitting right at the trailing edge of what's left of the storm. To my east is a bank of dark clouds muting the sunrise and to my west is crystal clear. The banding in the clouds is textbook perfect and the color spectrum is too. I love when you can really see a storms structure like this.
  20. I saw flakes a few times between here and Poughkeepsie tonight and right around sunset it sure looked like the Catskills High Peaks area was getting it good when I came over the Taconic Crest on 84. I know it was coming down hard up in the Daks and central/northern Greens this afternoon.
  21. Ya gotta love when the radar cleared out a while ago and you have people coming over for a BBQ and it's still raining
  22. We decided to go with planter boxes so they can be brought in and out easily enough if necessary. We're going to do some hanging planters too, keeps the tomatoes away from the dogs and bugs.
  23. Last morning below freezing? I want to get some of the veggie plants outside.
  24. It was pretty cool to get so many types of precip and thunder and sun all in the same day but I much prefer what we've got (so far) today.
