No, thats not it.  It's the endless days of cool rainy cloudy weather that sucks.  I love it when it's sunny for 7 days in a row and then it can be cool and rainy for a couple of days.  It's nice to see when it doesn't happen too often.

I'm hoping this May is a repeat of last May.  I think we only had 1 total rainout.  Looking at my solar system, last May had its highest kWh output since the system was installed in 2012.

Low of 40 now to a partly sunny 51.Breaksin the clouds as onshore pushes west and main cloud deck slowly comes east.  Goes mostly cloudy later this morning in the areas where the sun is out now.  Mid - upper 50s. Cloudy this Saturday with drizzle as the front clear through. Nice Sunday - partly cloudy and 60s. Cooler week 4/22 - Fri 4/26, with just light rain.   Chilly Wed - Fri.   Next 70s and warmer with the warmup by next weekend 4/27 to close the month.  Watch for cut off / onshore into next month.  No sustained warmth beyond 3 days yet on the longer out there forecasts.

It was nice to see the sun for an hour or so.  Now back to clouds.

I really think that deep down, no one actually enjoys this 40 something degrees and damp weather for days on end.  I mean could understand the flip side, not liking 90 degree heat with humidity in summer, but it just seems some like to "troll" that we aren't seeing much nice weather.

I don't know.  I know in winter I love cloudy days with snow showers with the sun setting at 4:30.  If I can like that, I can see people liking cool damp days in Spring.

Did this happen a few years ago when we all saw snow showers in early May with low temps near freezing?

It was mid-May.  I was getting my pool opened, midday, and snow flakes were falling.

Pouring here.  Nearing 1.25" total now.  Temp did drop 7 degrees so far with the rain

.62 overnight. Radar says we make it to a inch this morning

I was up to .81 before this rain moved in.  Pretty much a guarantee we get over 1" once again.  Had some decent thunder around 8 am.

Happy the freak snow band in that one event got me to pretty much normal at 28.75" for the season and like 22 days of snowcover for the year.  Snow normal, temps even close.

We had an insane cell come through last night that must've dropped darn near an inch or more itself!

Need to get my weather station setup at the new house in Monroe.

I'm in Florida, so that was from my station which i can see from my app.  But I saw a cocorahs near me with 3.6" as well.

This post reminds me of when I see the Yankees doing bad in the standings and am relieved to see the Redsox doing poorly too.

It reminds me that not every season is a winning season and that there are tons of ups and downs.

No, it's not about there being eclipses in those years, it's about the similarity in the path between 1994 and 2024.

Both are going from Texas to Upstate NY, the percentage of the sun covered is even the same in NYC (89%)

There are most definitely eclipse cycles-- they are called Saros Cycles.

    Oh sorry, misunderstood

So I take it these eclipses occur in 30 year cycles?

This is my first solar eclipse memory -- from May 10, 1994.

Does this eclipse path look familiar to anyone?

It was supposed to be raining and overcast all day but it stopped raining early and it stayed overcast, but because of the movement of the clouds, the clouds thinned out a little from time to time and it happened just in time for peak eclipse!

Does this eclipse path for May 10, 1994 look familiar to you? And just like I remembered it, it reached peak eclipse here just after 1 PM (1:35 PM to be exact.) Looks like that one was 89% here just like this one will be (with that one you had to travel north to Albany to see annularity and for this one it's Syracuse to see totality.) Is there a 30 year cycle for eclipses?

It's amazing how wide a range this annular had, from Mexico to Texas to New York all the way across the Atlantic to Morocco and to Algeria!

2017 there was one.  2044 there will be one.

The satellites that measured the ice from say 79-90 vs the 1000s more we have today, do you think that makes a difference at all?  They are probably way more precise today with many more doing calculations than the handful we had 40 years ago.  I wonder if we were to use 1980 tech to measure today what that would have come up with.

Meh. We have had so much rain the last few years that everyone should have already fixed their water issues

Yup, heard all the basement  cleanup and remediation companies went out of business since everyone did their repairs.
