Harrisburg is much farther from the State College radar than here. The further away from the radar the higher the radar beam is. What’s showing over Harrisburg is about 7,000 feet overhead vs here 50 miles closer to the radar where the beam height is about 2,000 feet. It’s seeing what’s still virga over the Harrisburg area. Snow should be beginning soon over there, likely within the next hour or so.

Oh I thought harrisburg area had its own radar harrisburg airport? just hate the fact it started showing snow many hours before they called for it and its just virga god I hate that word lol :)

  2. A little icy mix this evening followed by a little snow at times late, up to 1"; roads and sidewalks are expected to become slippery during the morning commute then 3-6 inches at my dads place. still odd icy mix no signs of ice in the whole state. for me just saw an update 4-6 for myself.

Yes, I just noticed that as well.
This is the point & click for Harrisburg International from a minute ago.

Maybe they will be bumping up the Advisory amounts again this evening?

yeah they normally love to low ball storms. Maybe its the fact we havent had to many before this year and they just dont want people on the roads. I know going into work during the last snow storm at 1pm roads were so empty even tho most of the high ways had very little slush

My prediction is still limited pavement accumulations, main roads stay clear. It’ll be a nice snow globe so all good.

with temps being so cold lately why do you feel that way? salt and chemicals still on the roadways? not heavy enough to lay on roads?

Moistening the atmosphere.  Watch your temp drop, dew point rise, RH reach needed levels, and then boom fireworks! Just gonna take a while ha.

true but needed it to be closer to the event honestly. today its to spotty for it to have snowed in my area sadly. but temps down to 24 all rdy

  6. Not sure how true it is but in the last week. I heard a former meteorologist say that the euro I has actually gotten worse with forecasting because they took some of the power away from the main model run and gave it to the essembls. Ever since then it hasn't been as accurate they did this in 2016. Not sure if that's true

3km Nam improvements over 18z & 0z are quite substantial. A good bit south with the qpf swath (similar to what the hrrr did)

a couple hours ago saw some one talk about the cold air energy getting close to merging with this storm vs what the runs had just earlier today. Does it still look the polar energy is getting closer is thats whats causing better model runs?

2:23a. Surprised to realize we are way off our westher.gov temp prediction -- by 10 degrees. I wonder if we will drop more? Are they going to update forecast?
