Its cold more often that not the first Saturday in April for some reason (trout season). I have seen it as low as 16 that morning with snow on the ground.

Easter weekend golfing in Pinehurst many years ago and the temps were cold enough on the tee box to cause a heavy frost delay and crack some hand bones when you made contact with that little white ice cube.  It can definitely happen.  Oh the irony if we could squeak out a trace of snow for a good portion of NC.

  2. Mama nature is going to run my well dry again this year trying to grow corn.  Can't even fill my extra water tanks I added.  Our string of luck has been so bad that when the dam finally breaks on our winter weather we might just have a historic snowfall event.  (it could also signal the beginning of the ice age)

  3. Headed for the 4th warmest February on record for the US.  If AI can improve our long range modeling then I'm all for it cuz the CPC Seasonals didn't show this coming.  I'm at the point where I don't trust a forecast whether it is from the CPC, WPC, NOAA, NWS or any other acronym you want to toss out. They're all wrong.  I'm seriously going to dig out the Farmer's Almanac this afternoon and see if that was even close.

  4. Had to come all the way to the Grand Canyon this week to find some snow.  Got to see it snowing sideways twice yesterday, ripping fatties as we like to say back home.    I guess I'll survive 200 more days until the winter thread comes alive again.  Until then, enjoy your weeds, bugs and humidity.

  5. Finally made it to South Dakota this week and yes I saw some old snow patches on the ground.  But I have also been working outside in a short sleeve shirt under some beautiful blue skies and a little pink on my face from the sun.  No cold in sight here either.  Maybe we'll have a March Miracle.  But Fab Feb is done before it ever got started.

I dont see any of this accumulating outside of the higher mountains. Just the token flakes.

EDIT - I stand corrected!  Just checked the farm cams in Stuart and the ground is covered!!

It's still going to mostly miss us to the northwest. We need the heavier rates to bring the cold air down otherwise it will be drizzle or light rain and 40.

Just let us be in love with the radar for a minute before we have to accept reality, okay?  C'mon.....geez.....

Just about all the short range are to far north... wonder if it plays out like that...

Just mentioned this in banter.  These short range models are not aligning with the current radar presentation.  More moisture on the south side of the system and trajectory takes this well into NC towards the triad.  Probably factoring in low DPs and drying this up quickly.

  9. Dunno, call me crazy, but thats a solid slug of moisture working in across southern TN and northern AL/GA.  Unless it takes a hard left around Morganton it is going to make it to the triad.  I'm sensing some surprise flakage incoming.  NAM and HRRR have this too far north.  Not validating what is on radar.  Temps validating too high as well for points west.  Have a little hope folks!

  10. I got you guys.  Headed to Mt Rushmore for a project on the 21st.  High temps there starting next week in the single digits.  I'll drag that cold pool right on home with me on the 24th for a Burger Boom kind of system.  Its coming, it has to be coming.  That is an enormous dome of sub zero temps stacking up in the midwest.

  11. Aannnddd we move on to mid January.  The cold is indeed coming, but is the pattern working with us or against us?  Polar vortex coming to the party with a strat warming sure does sound nice in Jan/Feb, but not at the expense of our storm track.  The drama builds and the clock is ticking!!  (Am I the only one with Deja Vu here??)
