It’s hard to see but this is my PWS set up. I mounted it on a white board off the corner of my deck using shelving brackets. It’s 7’-8’ off the ground. It’s not perfect but does a decent job. I also have an NWS employee who lives not far from me and I check my measurements with what they report when the PNS comes out. Usually within about a half inch either way.

Nice!  My comment wasn't directed towards you (or your deck railing) - I've seen you post that before with your PWS.  I do however see a lot of straight up deck railing measurements.

  2. Before we get any real obs going...for the love of god, throw out a white piece of wood or even a cutting board for your snow measurements.

Pains me to see deck railing and driveway measurements (cough cough astro' 'joyer)

Joe blow on facebook? fine, whatever.  You weenies?  For shame.

@mcglups Thank you for the insight. I'm personally planning to do Route 16 to I95 and avoid 93 altogether. I'm not sure it will be any better but that's my thought..

You might be better off taking 302 over into Maine and picking up 95 there.  Rationale being there could be less people heading south that way vs. 16.

I've got a honda genny. I usually wheel it out then put a folding table over it then a tarp. I leave the ends open. Poor mans shelter but I only do this in bad rain or sn storms. Does everyone else cover their portable genny or do leave it uncovered and hope for the best

I deal with not having power until precip is done.

Lots of eclipse pilgrims stuck in the mud. I can’t wait to see the pics of Honda Pilots with CT plates stuck in mud halfway up the driver side door.

At this point I'm almost as interested in the human element of this whole thing more than the eclipse itself.  It's going to be theatre in NNE.

Hoards of people, most of whom will be ill-equipped, woefully unprepared for any extended stay on the roadways, and tempted to try alternate routes that'll lead them to no-gas-no-cell-service land.  Will be fascinating to watch unfold if we get a clear-ish day.

Thanks for the feedback. We have our glasses and live within a fairly easy drive of totality, so I don't see myself passing it up.

I think our spot will involve us taking 95.  I'm not worried about it on the way up, but on the way back I can see it being a complete nightmare.  Working on alternative routes home that don't involve 95, but there aren't many that don't take you WAY out of the way.
