I think Mt. Mitchell will do a little better but that's awesome
true and agreed. I should have mentioned SW NC as our area.

Yeah Haywood in general is sitting pretty along with a lot of WNC. This should be a fun region wide storm were most will get in on the action. It's about time we saw this change in pattern.
One of the many reasons we moved from Jackson to Haywood was the weather. I was tried of being burned by winter storms in the deeper valleys of SW NC, that and a touch cooler in summers. Although I am a fan of rain and the Plateau is something special. Highlands and many other sites surpassed 100" of rain on the year, for the fourth year in a row.

It hasn't been mentioned, but I will not be surprised to see near blizzard conditions for some areas early tomorrow morning. Wind gusts to 40 are not out of the equation.
Two storm chasers locally will be camping out along Carver's Gap to live stream (hopefully) blizzard conditions. I wouldnt worry about their safety, these two know what they are doing.

Glad I'm not alone in thinking that. Thanks for the confirmation
The GSP AFD mentions thundersnow...
"Thunder snow will be possible as well due to the dynamics of this system and the development of instability within the core of the system."

If we don't get prolonged cold the ski resorts will be out of business.
I run a snowmaking business and its been an insane year for snowmaking hours here in the valley (Waynesville). We've had more snowmaking hours than Cat this season, in particular during December with so many inversions the last few weeks.
Check out Latitude 90, they are likely to be the new norm for snowmaking at slopes like Cat; internal snowmaking, thrown out from the container. Link: https://latitude90.ca/
Rooting for you up Crabtree for Sunday night, looking good for northern Haywood.

Dipped to 31°F this morning with frost on grass.

Not sure who all uses the NC EcoNet stations but they updated their website, dashboard, and added new features on Monday.
I'm loving it so far, playing with the Mtn Research Station data. We had patchy frost yesterday morning (34.4°F) but only managed to dip down to 37.9°F this morning, no dice.

Just getting settled back in at the house after our having our first baby. Little boy and everything went great. We were in the hospital for the duration of the worst of the cold. Was pouring snow on us walking in which was pretty cool for this weather geek.
We bottomed out at 13 at the house Friday morning after only reaching 32.7 on Thursday. Wound up with a nice dusting too after the late heavier showers.
Happy Easter everybody!

Driving on I 40 at 2pm around MM 29 and a guy sped by us going at least 70mph, hydroplaned and spun out into a ditch and flipped. It was insane.
He walked from it but this rain is way too heavy to be flying down the road. Be safe out there y'all.

Nice; I just happened to be parking by the gate when the ranger opened it to the Craggy Gardens Visitor Center yesterday. I ended up being the first car up there after opening the gate; the second car arrived about a minute after me. Numerous times my wife and I hiking or myself on the bicycle have been on a closed section of the Parkway and they opened it. I was always amazed at how quickly the cars followed. This time it was me LOL.
There is a slight celebration feel to it. I def was not the first, there were many cars at overlooks taking advantage of the open trailheads but everyone was excited for it be back open.
